You can scan your take off and landing area for 2.4Ghz activity before flight, I agree with ZAxis about the distance issue but not all jobs need you to fly 500m away.

Well maybe start him/you both with a flight simulator which won't help the PC issue but can save lots of money instead of crashing and repairing aircrafts.
Eflight do some good small heli's and a quad MQX I think, never flown one but they look great...
I don't have retracts but i still get great footage with the set up i have, I just don't pan 360* I get about 60* left and right before my landing legs coming onto the shot.

Sounds like a GPS issue to me, I have never touched the throttle curves when flying a DJI or Multirotor products.
DJI GPS may by faulty or poor GPS signal.
DJI GPS on the Naza accuracy are + or - 2.5m Horizontal & 0.8m Vertical.
Allow for windy conditions.
Did you do the GPS calibration ?
