Please help! Issues with transmitter and dji 450

Hi guys,
I recently bought the DJI F450 w/ Naza and a Hitec Eclipse Pro 7 for the transmitter.
I must say I have no expericnce with quad coptors or any RC stuff, so yes I am out of my league, I should have done more research before I bought, but oh well!

I have succesfully built the quadcopter, and after hours finally got it to sync with the transmitter, which was a bit of a victory. However starting up and flying it is another story!

On the transmitter (Hitec Eclipse Pro 7) settings I have set it as 'helicopter' and NORM.

I emailed the customer support at HiTec, and they said that for quad rotor, HELI mode should not be used, but he also said he wasn’t sure.


Can someone explain this to me?

I've also used the DJI Naza software to calibrate the controller, despite this the throttle is on the right side, instead of the left - which is really weird.

To be honest this receiver settings are beyond me, and I've read people talking about auto mode and manual mode with switches, etc. and I have no idea to set that up. I also don't know what channel I should be on (does it matter)? I would be very grateful if anybody could help me, I am hoping to take this on a trip with me leaving on Sunday!!

If someone has set up this transmitter/receiver with the DJI NAZA before, it would be awesome if you could let us know what settings you used and which channels. Alternatively a guide that explains everything in laymans terms would be unreal.

go to page 22 and read about changing modes. left throttle up and down and left rudder is mode 2

then you just want the radio left alone with a bone stock nothing done settings. Go to naza and reverse the controlls if needed. setup your modes man atti switch and your all set. if you have gps and need all the functions follow nazas instruction in wiring them

Yeah, don't use Heli mode I think is step 1.

The DJI instructions advise not to use Heli Mode, Change it to Airplane or, fixedwing or, Acrobatic mode. Not sure how your radio shows the mode. Reason why you do not use heli, heli mode can have some weird mixes across the channels.

I don't recall see that in the manual but I could be wrong, I use Heli mode with both Naza and WKM and it performs flawlessly. The only mixes Heli mode (as with Aero mode) would have are mixes that you program. Actually both mode work find its just personal preference, but yeah gotta admit its a heck of a lot more Heli then an airplane.

its doesnt matter heli mode fixed wind etc. Some radio offer non defended setup like the Jeit. But deanot has a point some radio when you choose heli mode you automatically have mixer acting. So for beginners the best approach its fixed wing just to avoid any trouble.

And it says in the NAZA manual (page 13) to use ACRO mode.

Yes it does because of the point stated before it makes it easier to setup things ! Otherwise you can freely configure your radio what ever way to want just takes longer and prone trouble for beginners.
Companies will for sure write stuff in the manual which will cause them less support stress and that okay !

I stand correct about it being in the manual. Since I've been flying Helis for years, Heli Mode was a super easy to set up with switch arrangment just like I have them when having flying a helicopter. But for grins and giggles I think I'll set up my Discovery in Aero mode also just to compare the easy of programming.
