F450 with 4S Battery - Prop Question

I see that they call for running the 8" blades when using a 4S battery. Is there any harm in using the 10" blades with 4S? Pull more amps?

yes it will pull more amps, but that's the idea as you get heavier is to up the props so your manual hover is near mid stick. when the props don't do it, you add more volts, then that's not enough, needs bigger motors.

in general, the recomended prop/cell counts are for a bone stock nothing but f450....... add stuff, needs uping the power

Sounds good. I tried both and the 10" felt better. I had a slight twitch when hitting WOT fast. I will try lower my gains a bit.

Thanks!

the twitch is a general sign of over propped,,,, motors are having a hard time reving and slowing...... leaving a stop light in 2nd gear kinda thing

OK. I will double check. I had it with the smaller props, but it was worse. That is why I tried the 10". I am stock except LEDs. Using a large battery 4S 5000mah. I did use a 3S 8200mah with the 10" and it flew fine. Testing and retest. :)

That is something I noticed building mine, the instructions from DJI say to use the 10" with 3S and 8" with 4S. That clearly has to be a mistake?

what are your gains set to?

running a 5000 mah pack is about as far from all stock weight as it gets. Your almost at the max weight those motors carry and still is fun to fly.... Your right on the edge

Yeah it is pushing it, but I can get about 18 mins with the 3S 8.4 :) My Gains are 135 PY and 120 on AV (I think). Planning on upgrading the motors soon
