Zenmuse Gimbal Z15 questions please help

Hello !
After many tries with other gimbals and gimbal controllers I have ordered a Zenmuse Z15.
I got it yesterday.
I am hoping that if I have any problem that somebody will be able to help me to get the best results.

My fist question :
I have seen many very good videos.
In the manual is written, that I can only trigger fotos with the Sony Nex-5.
How can I trigger a video with the gimbal, ord do I have to use an external trigger hardware ?

You have to press the record button before takeoff. Only a foto can be triggered via the Z15.

Hello Ferdinand !

Thank you for aour answer.
Do you have any other tips for me to get the best result out of the gimbal ?

The nice thing on the Z15 is, that you mount it, you put on the cam and it works, there is not "tuning (mounting/damping/...) voodoo".

Mount yours, switch on the cam, take a fly around and you will see.

P.S.: At least for my videos I can say, that they are right out of the cam.

You could buy 10- Z15's with the time that you will spend with crap like PH and a lot of others as well. It is the most straightforward way to get instant results. There is other stuff that can do the job (Mil.spec.) at ten times the price.

When the likes of PH say we will have stepper motor technology soon. That aint gona happen. A company that cant even put a hole in a gearwheel within a concentric accuracy of 1mm is not capable of designing and manufacturing a micro stepper board to drive the motors. If they get someone else to do it. it will be too expensive and still probably wont work. Skyline all over again. If you don't have the depth of in-house expertise AND the resources you can't compete in that market. Say goodbye to the also rans now and save some money.

RED Epic or ARRI Mini? Both!
hey guys...
Mabye someone could help me here! I guess this could also be posted in a WK-M thread..
I've just purchased the combo of S800, Wookong M and a Zenmuse! Skyline is now sitting the trash :)
after calibrating the GPS on the WooKong, I went for a first flight with the S800, with 2 x 6S 5000mah Zippy LiPo's and everything went great! AH and PH were amazing...didn't skip a beat!
I them mounted the Zenmuse to the S800, and for some reason im now having issues with Altitude holding correctly. it went from being rock solid to jumping all around the place. almost like there wasn't an even flow of power running to the system.
Has anyone experienced this before? could it be because of the added weight of the Zenmuse?
I didnt think that i would need to change anything with the DJI system :/

any suggestions would be great!

What AUW do you have? If it is about 6,5-7kg (what I would estimate) you are close to the limit. You can try to raise your vertical-gain, this should help.

Thanks Ferdinand,

Im not actually in front of the copter right now, but im presuming you would be correct with the total weight being about 6-6.5kg. (S800: 2.8kg | Zenmuse with Sony Nex7: 1kg | WK-M and and video transmitter: 400g | 2x 6s5000mah: 1.6kg).
When you say raise my vertical gain, do you mean directly on my transmitter using trims? or in the software?
Im pretty sure all my settings in the software were correct and my center of gravity is spot on middle.
How important is it to have the CG point exact? could this be effecting the flight? reason im asking is when I dont have the Zenmuse mounted and the batteries are then in the middle, its flying perfectly.
Oh, and would the no-load, loss and load voltage settings have anything to do with irregular flight?

Cheers!

I would suggest running only one battery. Short flights are better. One 11 amp. Maxamps will do the trick. or even one 5000 zippy.

Thanks Denny!
I'll give one battery a go tomorrow.
Do you think using two is maybe pushing the weight limit? Im basically using 2x5000mah because DJI suggest to use 6S 10000-15000mah.
Regarding the CG point. Do you have a suggestion for the best position to mount the Zenmuse according to the position of the battery?

The vertical gains you can raise in the software. Of course it helps if the COG is in the center of the copter. The Z15 with cam is a bit more heavy :) I would switch off the voltage monitor, better to measure the time, or use telemetry, but I do not want my copter to do an auto-landing (without my control) because of the battery.

Thanks again,
ive got a few things to try tomorrow! I'll adjust the vertical gains and go for another flight :) I was thinking the exact same with the voltage monitor... this the first DJI system ive used, as i usually use Mikrokopter FC which gives me telemetry directly to my MX-20. Can you recommend a telemetry system to use for the s800?

Hello,

I have a question:

I just ordered a Z15 version NEX5 and now the seller says it has Z15 version NEX7 in stock!

Is it a real problem or is it possible to use the version NEX7 with a Sony NEX5 ?

Thank's for support

jdm66

I would recommend you get the Zenmuse for the EXACT Camera that you will be using. They are dialed in from the factory for each camera type. If you have a NEX5, then get the NEX5 Zenmuse model. Also, Make sure you have the Sony 16mm lens for the NEX5. That is the lens that the Zenmuse is dialed in for.

Thank's for reply

Fortunately, the seller told me he sent me a version NEX5 :nevreness:

It seems to me there's a label identifying version on the Z15, the reception of the package I will control !!!

Oufffffffffffffff, with all these investments, Wookong + S800 + Z15 and all that goes around, I had not planned to buy a box naked NEX7

jdm66

You are better off getting the correct camera. The nex7 has a different center of gravity so you will be trying to make it work rather than having it work right out of the box.

I love the Z15... but I wish they could make an expandable one that lets us use different cameras. Thats the key to the future. I dont have one of these, but if I did well that would be nice.

This is a great setup for just about anybody getting into this type of flight. To bad everybody laughs when you say you use a Sony Nex5n to take video and stills. Everybody wants the best stuff, and reliable platfroms for cheap.
