Vsen LED unit started smoking

Hi

I recently just completed a new quadcopter with DJI Naza FC. Plugging in for the 3rd time I noticed white smoke come from the vsen led unit so I unplugged waited a while and plugged the lipo back in. This time no smoke and everything seems to be fine but now a bit hesitant to fly. There was no short, just have no idea what could have caused this?

Anybody experienced this before?

those units seem to be very poorly made. I have had 3 of them. 3rd time around was a charm. But annoying and not confidence inducing at all.

Here's a tip I was telling people back when I had one. File your usb connector down on the cable. those small barbs are pointless and can actually harm the Vsen unit. I once pulled out the whole usb female housing just from the barbs tugging on it too much. It still has plenty of grip in the socket without them.

Incredible, the whole package looks to be of excellent quality.. suppose looks can be deceiving. Although everything seems fine, would you fly?

Problem is I bought this unit some 3 months back, have sent them an email and wonder if they'll replace it. I bought DJI motors from another supplier and of the 4, 2 work. Having doubts in general about DJI stuff.

When the vsen unit smoked I had the usb cable plugged in but unplugged from PC.. this surely couldn't have caused it to short somehow?? beats me.

I had 2 weird motors as well in my RTF f450 kit. You just have to be very gentle with the usb/power module. I wouldnt fly anything if it started smoking if you're asking me. Call robert at uavproducts.

i wouldn't fly it.........

I've beat the crap out of em, used to run em on the bottom till i started lvc'ing in from 300' up then decided it probably should be out of the way, still all my origional cables, vu's, works

One of our regulars, think plingboot had that cable short out somehow an the motors fired up in his lap, had to get stitches so be very careful when your messing with these especially if it threw smoke already.
