so i started my f550 build out this past weekend, im going with the following 6x sunnysky 2814's 1250kv, dji esc's , 10x5 grapners, an x468 go pro gimbal (still need the remainder of the parts for this, servo's, bec, etc)

below is the picture log so far. still need to figure out the best set of servo's to go with the naza.

depends how heavy this thing gets i suppose,,,,,,, i run 2814 suppo on the dji 30 amp and have a logger on it. this weekend flew 32,000 mah, hit 720 watts on 4s with a peak of 50 amps for four motors /4 is 12.5 amps, and that was full FFF in atti, hit 48 mph....... 1630 gram f450

This weekend i spent some time doing high speed passes 1/2 mile long and it only lasted 5 minutes, usually average 8 minute flights. The esc's barely got warm, ambient outside was 90f, motors were about the same, if had to guess between 90 and 100 degrees. just ordered some micro temp sensors to stick on some of this stuff to look more closely at it.

Mark I will have a X468 Landing gear and gimble in my hands tomorrow. Quick trip out of town then build the stuff next week. I went with Hitec HS 65MG Analog servos. They were recommended by 468 guys. I also have some digital hi tec servos laying around but the research that 468 did led them to believe digital servos twitch with naza. I will certainly fill you in on what I discover.

do you have the part numbers?
the hex is almost ready to fly just need to config the naza and wait for the grapners to ship. hence the debate as to the right sized props.:O

got the rest of the frame put together last night, tested motor rotation, now just the long wait for the props to show up..

update,
so the hex flies, how ever its doing some wierd things, i had it running on a 4s bat, and noticed that the throttle is sluggish. ( ie, it starts to hover around 45-50% throttle but once it gets up, it kinda takes off, and i have to throttle down to keep it in a hover. as well as constanly adjust the throttle, where the f450 will just hover)

i have tried a new profile on my radio, but that didnt work, i tried using the same one i have for my quad, and that didnt work quite well either.

at the end of the hover and some low back and forths, i did notice that the esc's where warm, but not hot.

im wondering if the hex might run better at 3s instead of 4 at this point.

running 9x5 grapuners.

4s batteries work just fine in my F550 loaded up with weight or empty on my 10" Graupners
did you change the voltage from 3s to 4s in the NAZA assistant ?

im not using stock motors, i upgraded them to sunnysky 2814 1250kv. it appears they are good for 3s only, as they just have to much power and turn the props just to fast at 4s.
at this point it doesnt feel as the hex needs 4s, plnety of power and kick when it needs it.
just need to tweak the settings now.

also getting about 6min to 22-24% battery on the 3s 4000mah

video still uploading but the initial hover on a 3s

outdoor flight after trying to figure out why it wouldnt fly on 4s but flew awesomely on 3s. :p

slowly or quickly coming to the conclusion that ive over powered the hex, might be looking to offload the 6 motors if i cant get an exchange on them

I'm building a f550 with shortened graupner 11x5. 6mm clearance between the props.
Also put the 35amp 4s 850kv engines a little bit out of the center.
Still waiting on the 4000mah 4s nano-tech's, only flew it on 3s for now and flies fine without payload
Should be able to lift the landing gear, gimbal and 550d without any problems.

ive flown my quad on 3s and on the suppo 2814's 1000kv's and dont really notice alot of performance difference between the 2. that was with and w/o a gopro and bats between 2.65ah 3s - 4ah 3s, on 4s i run 3ah-5ah.
i do like how the hex flies on the 9x5 grapners, when i put 2 10's on there the clearence between the blades is just to close for me.

ok updated the motors to suppo 2814's 1000kv.
the hex flies so much better on 3s and even better on 4s. i managed to get an 11 min flight time out of a 5ah turngly nano tech, and wow the hex can get some speed in to it. the additional control axis (the 2 additional motors) seems to make it a bit jumpy, i got the gains to 120-120-100-120 and 100-100. so i figure i still need do some additional tweaking of the gains.

Have you put any expo on your radio yet? I find the higher kv motors need it sometimes to tame them.

yeah i was trying some more negative expo(futaba radio) today before i left home. and the twitchyness was happening before i started tweaking the gains.
more fun after the rain and wind go away this week.
