will the F550 be easier to fly in windy condition than the 450? its always windy where i fly and some occasional dusty weather... i have no payload cept for gopro and some chepo landing gear/cam mount but planning to add some FPV in near future... will the 6 rotors be better than 4 in winds above 15kph? thanks....

Aye up faywerks.. where on our planet are you?

Usually a quad will be less affected by the wind than a hexa as it has less surface aera to actas a wind sock!

I love flying my 450 in the wind..

thanks Droider... im in the Middle east.. dusty weather is understatement :D

if the quads are more stable in the wind... most probably keeping my flamewheel with HK landing gear cam mount and getting another quad with cheaper motor for those not so calm weather... i was originally planning to get me a F550 and transfer the naza for my FPV and aerial photo and build the 450 with cheap motor and some kkboard just for fooling around...

talk about wierd weather... we've been having alternate days of sandstorm and few scattered rains... yup its raining in mid east...

Droider,

I have just joined the forum today as I am thinking of buying a Quadcopter of some description. The DJI F450 looks a good option and I'm glad it can handle wind and living wher I do, if you don't fly in a wind, you don't fly nery often. I have a Nikon Coolpix 7900 and reckon for my needs I won't need much more than that, maybe something that can do HD video. Is your camera on top of or underneath your F450 and how did you fit it? Looking forward to getting into this aspect of the hobby and I am open to any advice you have to offer.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Steve, I have done it both ways. I currently have my GoPro mounted inverted on a plexiglass piece under the F450 tab. I have the mount slanted down a few degrees, two washers under the front screws. I don't get the props in view. Here is a video that I did while testing props and mounts. I have 9cm arm extensions to be able to do this. This is all raw video with no stabilization.

I'll vouch for Dave's comments with the F450 in wind, its awesome, I have one and it can pretty much fly in anything as Dave's vid suggests.
They serve us well in the windswept north.

Here's what i did on my 450 for my old junk Nokia n95 phone, it takes on the ixus 220 with no probs but just picked the phone so i can just do anything with it with no worries... just fabricate a mount out of 2mm alum plate... the total setup with velcro is 28gms... i also tried the Hobbyking LG with camera mount and just having hard time with the extra drag with the winds where i fly, additionally with no extra LG or Cam mount i can just toss the f450 in the booth and makes it more portable.

this is crappy vid during maiden...
