need some FPV assistance.

This is my 2nd time around buying FPV gear. I would consider myself an accomplished solderer and relatively meticulous. With that said I recently purchased an ImmersionRC diversity Rx in 5.8Ghz. I also got an Iftron Stinger Pro 250mw 5.8 tx. I was told by a few people there is no issue with them working together. So all the lights go on normally, no smoke, antennas are all plugged in, channels have been flipped through numerous times. I've tried various other video sources and also plugged them directly into my monitor to make sure everything is working. So the issue is definitely in the transmission of the video. The Tx ( most probable place for failure) has 2 connectors, a 3 pin and a 6 pin. the 3 is for audio only so I am not even connecting that one.

The 6 pin has :

black/red for input power.
yellow for signal (soldered to center tap of RCA plug)
black for video signal ground (soldered to RCA coax ground)
orange for camera powere ( taped off as not needed with camera)
white for audio gain(NA)

Did I do something wrong here? Would the lights go on if it were defective at all? My last setup I did the same and it fired up pretty quickly but I never soldered or used any RCA's as the camera was a small sony 555 that wired directly into the tx.

Help!

thanks

i just looked at the manual for that tx, whats the deal with page 2 and how it has you reverse two wires? is yours the right orientation for the camera you have?

My first thought was to go check and see if they had the same channels as fatshark, there hard to find compatible tx's but it doesn't show the freq.

Just assuming they are compatible since i was told this by Tim at readymaderc and another guy. I was testing it with the gopro live view out. So it shouldn't need the orange wire. The only 2 wires that it should need for input are the yellow/black, right? Perhaps it is just broken. Or maybe the Rx isnt working. I will say the noise the Rx makes from constantly flickering between antennas is annoying!

Sounds like the TX & RX are not compatable! I could be wrong of course. My first choice would be to get a 4 pole 2.5mm plug (to fit the gopro). Solder the video & earth onto the plug & try it straight into a TV set. Then via the TX to make sure thats working ok. Can you put a multi meter on the go pro plug & confirm what is connected where? As you rightly said, the video & earth are the only 2 wires you need.

Failing this, your best source to confirm that the TX & RX are compatable is to go to www.fpvlab.com & ask the guys there.

The end goal was to use my Sony n5 with an hdmi converter. I have tested both this and the gopro's output by connecting straight to a monitor. they both work fine. It is definitely between the tx and rx. Too bad everyone is out of immersionrc tx.

It would seem silly to make RX and not Tx ??? Maybe they are pushing UHF now?

As for reverse wiring, that only applies when you are using the connector that goes straight into the camera. I am not using that setup at all since I am inputing via an RCA plug.

ah, for some reason i was thinking the orange black became the rca, but i see how your saying

In 5.8 theres only a few that have that channel range to work with fatshark, uses different channels, something about the board they use. no rx's or tx's at hobby king are compatible in stock, that was the last i looked. Found some stuff here like this thing

http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16424

it's that airwave compatible thing, uses different channels like the actual frequencies used

Seems strange the guy at readymade can't get ya going if he said it works and it doesn't

I don't believe those work today, Yuri. Doesn't Immersion stuff use the airwave board, and Iftron not? I know when I set up my FPV gear, and then latter added to it, I had to get all Immersion TX to be compatible with my FatShark goggles.

Do they not have a list of the frequencies used by each channel? You just have to look and see if they line up or not.

they list the freq on every av tx i've looked at till yuri mentioned that model and i searched it. has ch1-8,,,, no mention if 5770, 5810, etc

I just checked myself and the Iftron stinger pro says it uses 5.740-5.860. The ImmersionRC diversity says 5.740-5.860 as well. So that cant be the issue unless there is something else that makes them non-compatible.

I think someone just sold the blind kid a dead bird! kidding.

best of my knowledge, that board they use is the only one with that pattern of channels

have you tried changing the channels on both to a different one?

I think I have the answer! Will try it in a bit. Ive been using a 8.5v transformer to test it with. The 4th dip switch set to on cuts Tx output at 8.4v. So i bet increasing the voltage to the tx will solve this. Fingers crossed.

Ok! that was the problem. I applied a little more juice and voila everything works. I have to say, not only does it work but it is 10 times more clear than my fatshark setup. Widescreen and almost looks hd on my external monitor I am using. WOW!

thanks for your help guys.
