Drilling the F450

I want to mount the FC on the lower plate of the F450 but the slots are in the wrong place. Is it possible to drill this plate, bearing in mind the power distribution which is incorporated in it? I need to make holes either side of the middle slots.

Thanks,

Gunter.

Don't see why not - when you look at the bottom plate the PDB area is quite a large disk with arms out to the various solder tabs - i'd 'guess' that you're not going wreck it with four holes - maybe not use metal stand offs and bolts though ;-)

Did you dig out that led mount? How much would you like for it?

I assume it has a coule of mount holes - i plan to drill the top plate of the F450 and mount it there so the led sits between the arms facing back and down…

I've got some plastic standoffs so I'll use those.

Yes, I've got a spare one. Just pm me your address and I'll post it. Don't worry about money, I had it made free!

Gunter, I'm about to do the same thing. Let me know how it works out for you.

Ah, so it looks like I'm the Guinea pig! As long as you all share the expense of a new board if it breaks :)

I've done it and it looks okay. There is deffo copper in there, I'll do a continuity test a bit later to make sure it's okay.

Hi Gunter and Kilby,
Just checking if this worked out for you guys ? I'd like to drill some holes in the base plate of my F450 later and want to make sure it's not going to be a mistake.
Thanks
Eoin

Gunter, did you use plastic screws aswell? Im ready to drill my 550but im concerned about the positive shorting to the negative plate on the bottom, because id need to use metal screws...

I drilled mine with no problem and mounted the CC board. Just be sure to use a center punch first to get things lined up proper.

I did end up using nylon screws for mine also. I can't remember if there was any sign of copper inside.

I drilled mine fine as well, but used plastic screws. There was deffo copper inside.
