ImmersionRC issues

Ok, so I received my equipment today, well part of it anyway.

600mw ImmersionRC 5.8Ghz TX
ImmersionRC Uno5800 5.8Ghz RX

So I got it all wired up, and I can't get any picture on my TV from it..... well I do for a second. So I removed it all from the installation, hooked up a 4S direct to the TX, hooked up a 3S direct to the RX with the same results... ohh, I am using a fulling working and tested camera. Channels are matching, 1 beep on the RX for channel 1, all switches down on the TX for channel 1, picture again for a split second and then nothing.

Little information on my skills.... Certified electrician including low voltage, Trained Audio and Video installer (Automotive) and just about anything electronic or electrical is my field.. So it is not like I don't know what I am playing with.

This was all hooked up via my TBS Discovery, with the core set for 12 volt vid.

I have contacted my dealer and was in hopes someone on here could shed some light on this setup....

Thanks in advance.

a big gotcha with FPV gear is that the four-pole 2.5mm (3mm maybe?) pins aren't always wired the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. i had a similar experience with my first set up until i figured out that my goggles and Rx were wired differently. i started by tracing the ground from Rx to goggles and then found the video + and made sure that went to the correct poles on the two pins.

if you have cables from each piece of equipment that connect with RCA plugs then you can usually avoid problems. i had tried to simplify things with a single continuous cable but the ends weren't compatible.

give us a picture of how your wiring it up

have you tried changing channels? wireless cable boxes use 5.8 and is digital so it won't show you tv, but will be a crazy high noise floor. try ch4, try ch8

because that vtx has a bec inside it it's not a good idea to power this through core. it needs to go straight to a set of powered pads on the disco frame.

Thanks Bartman, yeah I went over them to make sure... I simplified everything to make sure nothing was amiss. Removed everything and went the simple route, but the RX is just not tuned to the TX, both are on the same Freq / Channel but the image disappears literally after a second of tuning to the channel. Very weird and I feel the RX is bad, but I am new to FVP so... here I am.. lol

I can tell you how I am doing it Kloner...

Power to TX, 2 pin plug, red wire to red on battery, Black to black on battery and TX powers up.
Bigger 6 wire plug, removed the red wire which is 5volt out to power 5 volt cameras. Black to Video Ground, White to audio on camera, yellow to Video, Green removed from plug as it is for right audio and not needed.

Hope that paints a picture, I can't do a picture as I have removed it all at this time.

Sorry, I missed a bunch and did not reply to it...

I tried every channel, have no cable boxes, the tv I am using is only connected to my gaming system, the vtx is connected direct to 12 volts on a battery, I thought the same thing when I ran it via the Core, I thought maybe it could not handle the 600mw.

ever power it without an antenna?

Absolutely not, days of CB radio and some Ham, you tend to not have a load coil or antenna attached.... plus I have read about it around here too, they burn out real quick with no antenna. As soon as I got it out of the pack, the standard antenna went onto the TX, the RX followed but it is no way as critical.

Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it.

out of the box problems usually go back through the dealer you got it. you might try the immersion forum at fpv labs tonight and see if this is something normal or if theres a simple fix. These things just work usually

Thanks Kloner, I did contact my dealer as they are classed as the first level of support. See what he has to say regarding this problem, if not I will go through immersionRC or even try the forums as you suggested. Thanks again.

To me that sounds like if one of the units (Tx or Rx) is just faulty. Do you have a working set of different Rx/Tx in the same band (Airwave) ?.....than you can try to hook the Immersion Rx to the Tx who is working and do the same with the Immersion Uno and the working Tx. That way at least you can find out which component is giving you headache......that's the way I do it all the times, but obviously that requires a second set Tx/Rx in the same band.

Unfortunately not Chris, I don't even know of anyone in the area that is into multirotors and fpv. So I am kinda stuck... :(

I appreciate that Bart, but I just this second figured out what was going on. Turns out a pin in the plug was not quite all the way in, must have pushed out of the video wire on the TX when inserting it.... I feel like an idiot, but an happy idiot at that.

Thank you all for your help, now all I have to do is mount it all back in and connect to the TBS core.
