What would be the cheapest and best Tx to be able to bing to say a MQX to learn on and then later down the road be able to use for a dji f450 build?

Hi,

If you're just getting into RC, then the 9x is great and super cheap. If at some point down the line you think that you may graduate to more complex builds which will require more channels, better set-up options, telemetry etc then you may want to buy something more expensive like Futaba or the JR XG series. I myself decided to buy a top quality radio from the begining, so as I needed more channels and better functions, I didnt have to go out and buy a whole new radio. I've never regretted this decision; but hey, the 9x is so cheap that it doesnt really matter. It will certainly do the job for a 450 build in the future and if you decide that you need a better radio at some point, you will be out of less than a hundred bucks.

Mr take no prisoners!
Whatever radio you get you will be better off getting one with at least some three way switches, you will be glad you did.

I'm almost set on getting a Futuba t8j now. It comes with 2 three way switches. Don't want to have to modify the 9x for a 3 way switch and update firmware and so fourth.

Forget about the Turnigy and other cheapo Chinese radios, they're just that, cheap radios with all that implies. I gave the 9XR a try and it went stone cold dead in the middle of a flight less than 3 months after I started using it. I opened it up and quite honestly the hardware is crap, poor soldering, loose connectors, and wiring that was barely long enough in some places. Since I had already invested in TX modules and receivers I wound up buying a Futaba 10C off eBay, one of my least favorite radios but light years better than a Turnigy set and the only radio I could get quick and cheap that would work with what I already had.

If you plan to stay with flying RC spend the $ on a decent radio it will be cheaper in the long run and likely last for years.

If you are in for the long haul get a good radio to start with.
I'd recommend a DX8 Spektrum because it has the three 3 position switches you need to properly operate the DJI.
You can get away with a DX7 but the DX8 is only a few bucks more and offers far more flexibility.
Buy the MQX with the transmitter and learn on that and see if you are able to fly or even want to.
