Forget about the Turnigy and other cheapo Chinese radios, they're just that, cheap radios with all that implies. I gave the 9XR a try and it went stone cold dead in the middle of a flight less than 3 months after I started using it. I opened it up and quite honestly the hardware is crap, poor soldering, loose connectors, and wiring that was barely long enough in some places. Since I had already invested in TX modules and receivers I wound up buying a Futaba 10C off eBay, one of my least favorite radios but light years better than a Turnigy set and the only radio I could get quick and cheap that would work with what I already had.
If you plan to stay with flying RC spend the $ on a decent radio it will be cheaper in the long run and likely last for years.
