YouTube 4K videos

Does anyone know how YouTube handles 4K files? I uploaded a 4K video last night hoping that anyone that wasn't on a 4K playback device would still be able to view it in 1080, or at the very least 720, but that doesn't seem to be the case. My one friend with a 4K TV says it's looks amazing, but that's no good if he is the only one that can see it in any type of HD. When I go to the video now I see only an SD option. That seems to defeat the whole point since 4K tv's are still a minority of what are in homes. What are others doing to address this issue?

I uploaded a 4k test and it was available on 4k, 1080, 720, 480 so I don't think it's a problem. My internet connection is not fast enough to view it without buffering, but full screen on a 27" iMac it looks pretty good. GH4+S900+Z15

Yup, mine did eventually show up in other formats. I guess their servers were overloaded last night when I first uploaded it. It's working now!
