x650 props

So I am going to order some new props

11x5 graupners. I need clockwise and counter clockwise blades right?

Also I was curious about upgrading motors or at least looking into a different brand to see if theres less vibration. or are the motors on the x650/somewhat as good as they get.

heres the camera mount i am thinking

I flew mine with the Grapuner 11x5's and liked it a lot better. If you're going to replace the motors I'd suggest something with a slightly lower Kv value but since I don't know what the spec's are on the XA motors, it's tough to know what to buy as a replacement.
I posted in the build thread about adapting the props to the XA 4mm motor shaft. You'll need a washer below the prop and another above. Also, you can either mash the prop between nuts above and below or pull the motor shafts and put a notch where the set screw is in the motor bell. As it is now, you can't tighten the prop nut too much (with the prop resting on the motor bell) without pulling the shaft through the motor and jamming it up. Filing a round notch in the motor shaft lets the set screw actually set the shaft in place. I also tapped the set screw to 6/32 and put the shortest 6/32 set screw in there that I could find find, 6/32 x 1/8" in the link below.

Haven't heard much good about the XA GPS, you give it a try yet? I doubt I will so long as I have to buy new batteries to use it.

Ok i will do more research on the motors. I think I am going to put some money into the x650 maybe $1000 and see what I can do. then if it doesnt work then I will do the hexa.. Ill upgrade the camera to a g12 or something similiar. nex5 etc... I dont ever fly this heli very far away from me, so the gps etc isnt something that I feel I need right away, other than the saftey aspect. im going to set up the heli with whatever I need to get this camera stable first, then i will do the gps etc.. I set up the heli this am with the photoshipone style mount. ill post a pic in a hour or so. It flies great only thing I added was four extra x650 arms two of which were carbon fiber, and few zip ties. So not much weight.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
I also doubled the top frame plate and it made the whole frame a lot stiffer which also seemed to make it fly better. there's a tuner thread in the general area, as you make changes post what you've done and what the outcome was so we can all maybe get something out of it.

let's definitely hear what you did to improve things. I tried stuffing some carpet foam in the centers of the camera mount hangers to make them less springy and it helped but it could always be better.
looking forward to seeing your video and build pics.

so here is the footage from the quad with the photoshipone style mount i rigged on a x650. I havent really shot any video since Ive bought this thing because its been to shaky.

This footage is not stabilized at all and the xaircraft 1 axis camera mount isnt even hooked up.
the best ive seen yet..
I found a 2 or 3 axis camera mount I am going to mount on here and it will help out even more. also trying to decide what to get lumix gh2 , nex5, g12 any feed back

Check out this website http://www.dpreview.com/ Use it to check out the specs etc on all the cameras you are interested in. there is a drop down menu for each review. You want to look at the Specifications menu for weight, resolutions etc etc. then you want to go straight to the conclusions menu and in that you can select other cameras to compare the ratings to. Ive been a commercial photographer for 21 years now and i have used this site for the last decade and they are generally pretty accurate. Also there are very busy forums with lots of info on cameras.

I have been researching the crap out of all these. but the issue still stands cmos or ccd and with the very slight vibrations fromt he heli I dont want any warping etc. or too slow frame rate. not too worried about pictures its the video.. I was kinda looking for someone on here thats used one of these and I can see some sample video. im leaning towards the nex 5 but i hear it doesnt have IS built in.

If you go here

You will see a few examples of different camera video. I use the Panasonic TZ10 on my Gaui,(snow fly over southport - Fist post) and a Nex5 on my ADX3. I have just stepped up one and bought the Canon 550D for my next build.

The early morning flight I filmed was with the Nex5. One thingI would say if you are flying video is do not fly you MF at its limit. I am flying my ADX3 with about 300g more carrying capacity but it gives you a better response when flying in tight stuations. I even drop back down to the GoPro with no housing if I am going ti be flying in tight situations. Flying to the max weight is always going to start the vibrations either from the props or the arms or both. Align make a silicon jelly antivibe sheet. I use this cut into small blocks and stuck on the bottom of my careras to try and decouple the camera from the mount a bit. this is the stuff

Jeff Scholl has been shooting nice stuff with the GH2 recently. Have a look through his videos, he uses a few cameras http://www.vimeo.com/20921788
