Wookong vs MK on Skyjib 8

Hi everybody.
Im the owner of a Skyjib 8 with Plettenberg Orbit 15 Motors and Xoar 14/ 4 Props.
Since there where some Problems with the Orbits , the BL 2.0 and big Props , I'm waiting for the Herkules 3 .But it takes really long.......
Now i started to think about using the Wookong Systhem.

Some month ago i read about problems with big Copters under windy conditions.
Are these problems solved ? Ist the Wookong now flying smoother than the MK ?
What kind of BECs are the best at the moment. ( min. 60A).
What are your Set Ups ?

Second vote for hoverfly pro. Use it on my octo(XY8 config) and it is hands down the BEST flying characteristics of all the FC's I have owned. DJI has some nice features but you are going to regret it if it starts blowing and they just dont seem to be as consistant as the Hoverfly. The DJI Gps is excellent and it does fly very smoothly but thats when it is calm out. I have just had too many weird things happen. Erratic YAW, flipping upside down in manual mode, and just too many firmwares and features to keep things simple for me. Hoverfly, is basic, you can adjust gains from the Tx so you dont need to plug into a computer. the guys ANSWER the phone when you call and will at least email you back, I challenge you to get an email from Holger or Sidney. It was a close call before they came out with 8.02 but now it is just plain obvious Hoverfly is going to start taking huge market share back. MK shouldnt even be an option for you. They fly very well in wind, have lots of parameters to fuss with and are nice and tidy when assembled-thats it! But your probability of success is not good. if you get a damaged BL, you are to blame since you have to solder it all.

Anyways, this is my personal experience. I was pretty sold on DJI until they just started shooting firmwares out like hotcakes. And they just dont like wind.

There is also YS-X6 which has been so far very good system after using WKM. Very similar to wkm but more functions and people have reported much smoother performance also with bigger frames. Ground station is free using wifi including 4 waypoints. Firmwares have been so far very well tested and reliable, GPS performance is unbelievable precise and fast. (usually finds 11 satellites here in few seconds) Also have more options to tune than wkm. Only cons are very big (physical size) main controller unit and gimbal output is not any better than wkm, not worse though.

Hello Jochen,

If possible, give Graupner 14x8 a try, I this will help a lot whatever FC you are using. On the WKM there is not a problem with big props, it is a problem with big props with small pitch, since it can happen that you hover with 20km/h pitch-speed, this is causing trouble in windy conditions. I am flying quite a number of copters on the 14x8 (and the 15x7,5) with the WKM (and the Naza) without any problems also in windy conditions (the bigger the copter, the more stable). I did already test quite a number of props (13"-16") on multicopters, to me the winner is (by far) the Graupner 14x8.

I also made some flight-tests, here my result is, the more pitch-speed you get, the better it flies in windy conditions:

Hello Jochen,

Then try 12x6, so something with about 2:1 Diameter:pitch. Does Plettenberg say this Props at max for multirotor, or for conventional aircrafts?

I am using this motors (on the quad with the 14x8 Graupner), and also on the hex carrying my Zenmuse:

The other quad has this motors:

If it is good (on the long term) for the magnets to run over 70° C you have to judge yourself.

best regards
