WKM with TX gain settings

When you set the gain remotely to a switch on the TX, does that over-ride the gain setting in the setup software or is it added to that amount? My octo was a bit wobbly so I thought I would try remote gain. However after setting the remote gain, it got off the ground it is was oscillating so badly it was totally out of control. Yes, another crash and this time I am redoing all the wiring just to make sure I have it right. I don't think I can afford another motor mount and arm on the Droidworx frame.

You can check out the remote gain in the config tool while you operate the switch. You will see what value you are switching to etc. But eventually putting the basic gains on a switch makes no sense since you can only switch between two values. Better is to use a slider or poti were you can adjust the gains in step.

It overrides the software setting, however you need to set it up a certain way to make sure you're not getting too much gain with it. The proper setup goes like this, pick the control you want to use for remote adjustment, a slider or knob, and center the travel after making sure it is assigned to the channel that is plugged into the correct X port on the WKM.

Before assigning the gain to the X port, manually set it to the gain that you want to be the midpoint of the adjustment range, and save the setting. After saving the setting you can now assign the gain to the X port and you should see the gain setting stay at what you just saved. Now you can move the adjustment to each end of the range on the TX and note what the setting becomes in the Assistant software, use the end points for that channel in the TX to set the high and low range of adjustment that you want.

On my Cinestar I have the midpoint set to 75% and the low to the minimum of 40% with the maximun setting at 110%, probably not a good idea to have the range of adjustment greater than that as it is possible to wind up with a maximum of 400% which will make just about anything unstable and unflyable.

It is possible to use a switch but it really needs to be a 3 position switch and you only get 3 possible settings. Setting it up like I just described will give a midpoint setting and a high and low with nothing in between. Not ideal but I've done it and if you already know the settings you want to have for each position it is workable. If you're trying to dial in the proper settings it will need to be on a slider or poti as Boris noted.

I currently don't have a slider or dial (dx6i). I just have a switch but planned on opening up the travel adjustment for that switch and adjust it that way in real time while it is flying (that is what I do with my other multi rotors - Guai 344 and Hoverfly) - should do the same thing as a slider or dial. Actually this is probably a better option because a person is less likely to accidentally move it like a dial or slider.

Since my hexcopter is unstable with gain under 100%, I have mine set to 200% midpoint, so it goes from 100% to 400%.

I really wish there are more channels on WKM so we can assign more than just one gain to a channel.
