WKM octocopter X8 maiden flight crash

Hi,

I've been following these forums for quite some time as well as flying naza F450 happily. Huge thanks to the knowledgeable experts here, I've learned a lot from you guys. Now I finally finished WKM octo X8. Don't know why I decided to build X8 - it doesn't seem very popular with WKM. Anyway,
I crashed it on maiden flight. It started spinning on take off and then went down, as seen in the video. The crash wasn't very bad - it cost me broken landing gear and one bent prop adapter, even props survived. Any ideas what I did wrong? I put 13x4 Xoar on top and 13x6 on bottom, could that
be the cause? Any input is very much appreciated.

Ahhh man, that sucks! Feel for you.

Looks like something was plugged in incorectly? Just a wild a** guess.

I fly X8 Xaircraft and I like it. Now I am building ADX4 (X8). To answer your question I would think yes the different blade top and bottom caused the spinning. Since yaw is implemented by motor rotation so difference it he inertia will result to unbalanced between direction. On WKM top is all CCW and bottom is CW. unlike others where the motor rotation is different arrangement. I could be wrong but I think thats the most likely culprit. or tom suggestion is also an option

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree. My XY8 (coaxial quad, 11.5 lbs. all up) is flying almost daily with Xoar 12x5's on top spinning CW and Xoar 12x7's on bottom all spinning CCW. I'm using MK for guidance but I've got the same set-up with Hoverfly and it's also flown just fine.

Most of the flight controllers will accommodate a little torque imbalance from inertial differences and never show an indication of control loss.

The level of control loss that you had in that video would lead me to believe something wasn't plugged in correctly or something wasn't plugged in at all! That was a wild flight!

Good luck getting it sorted out.
