Trying to replace sky in Photoshop

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to jazz up a simple commercial building photo with an improved skyscape and I've got one done but I can't remember for the life of me how to to it a second time. It was a few days ago that I did the first one and I can't find the link to the guide I used. In looking at the various methods there are certainly better ways to do it but the way I'm trying is very fast and easy provided the horizon is mostly crisp and uncluttered.

So what I did was I had two layers with the original in one on top and the sky in the other and was using the General Blending opacity to make the one sky blend into the original sky but when I'm now trying to do it I'm still getting the checkboard pattern blending in along with the new sky. I can't remember what the step was that kept the checkerboard of the underlying layer from being seen in the blend.

Anyone?

THanks,
Bart

give me a buzz if you still need help. I personally find it easier to do in After effects but its more or less the same. You need to take the pen tool and mask out the horizon. If the sky is there and the lower part not, then hit M and click on subtract. Then make another layer(cmd+y) drop in your sky pic. Feather the mask(hit f while the layer is selected) and do some color correction(curves/hue/saturation) and voila. Stills are easy.
