Hoverfly Transfer from RCGroups

Yeah, I can blow that up.
Just thought I'd say hello. I built and fly a Hoverfly X-8 with a T-2i camera for work. RC is both a hobby and a job for me. I enjoy learning on forums and helping others. :tennis:

Hello all,
New members of the forum ,switching from dedicated Hoverfly thread on RCGroups to here. I am building RTF crafts, mainly with HoverFly control boards ; have built 3 Gaui 500 with HF boards, a lot of Gaui 330 (with Gaui electronics), 2 Y6 with RCC chassis ,a X8 based on Droidworx chassis and a CX-4 recently.. Run a site at http://www.as-modelisme.com in France and also a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/As-Modelisme/414141385276595?ref=hl
Always glad to help when i can!

MR Forums and Hoverfly. If you migrated from RC Groups and want to put your name in..

Howdy folks..... just moved over from RC Groups and The forums seem, lets say, a little more civil. If anyone hasn't tried .802 yet, you're missing a treat. :tennis:

Hey Benjamin.... I've seen your work and you're far more professional than I am. However from a non-pro, all I can say is the large Y6 is rock smooth. I flew flew it yesterday with the GPS unit on and it was able to actually hold position within 6' or so. I didn't try RTH as I was only interested in the way she handled. The AL is SO MUCH BETTER! I think that's the reason for the big improvement in the GPS PH. My setting was 45 in the setup platform and it was a huge degree more usable. The previous one, for me, us unusable with my big X8 and Y6. The small quad, I always flew in AL as it was squirrely without it. I don't have a gimbal yet, but at 1080P with my Hero2, I get no jello and no vibration. It's like it's on a pole. In your hands, you could do work.

Additionally, they completely eliminated any yaw surge you may have heard about. I rotated it through 360° and it behaved perfectly or as expected.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Thanks for coming over guys. You'll feel very welcome here, feel free to ask whatever you want. The "Active Threads" button just below the site banner on the left side seems to be the most used button on the site and the threads can cycle through the list pretty quickly so don't be surprised to see threads drop off the list.

We upgraded the server a while back so there's plenty of room for blogs, photos, video links, etc.

Our users seem to keep a more mellow approach to things than at other sites. Maybe our guys eat more fiber? Who knows, but whatever it is it works and we enjoy it here. We hope you will too.

By the way there's no censorship here. I go on the premise that the rest of the internet does in fact exist. RCgroups, Flyinggiants, RCuniverse, mikrokopter.us, they're all still out there after you sign up here. it would be nice if they'd return the favor.

Enjoy!
Bart

Chris, have you looked in the firmware revisions area? You'd have to run the firmware update client to see the list. i'll go look, give me a second.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Firmware version .800 was a big one that really improved the flying qualities. Version .802 appears to be new and a further improvement on .800.

I'll post a more formal announcement.

Cool...thanks, didn't think about Hoverfly firmware...reading his post lead me to think about one of the "civilized" threads at RC Groups...

My first real post in MRF!!

I have to say the difference between the 4.3.800 and 4.3.802 firmware versions is night and day. 802 is so stable in all axies under all conditions (wind) and in all modes (AL, AH, MAN) and I am extremely happy with it! I do not have the GPS board......yet........but am planning on it when funds allow. I got into AP as a fun thing as my wife's hobby is amateur photography so we are getting the best of both worlds together!! She directs the shots and I fly the machine. It will make things a whole lot easier when the GoPro guys release their wireless app for the iPhone and tablet. I have the remote wifi backpack and it is fantastic for running the camera settings and triggering the shutter but it will be sooooooo nice to be able to actually see what the camera is seeing in real time.

All the guys at HoverFly have done an outstanding job (imho) developing this product. A few bumps along the way as in any emerging technology but ...to me.... totally worth it.

Cheers

....and my first real question to you...how is the gimbal stabilisazion performing (I think it's built into the Hoverfly Pro board) . I don't have any experience with Hoverfly so far, but since Ben Rowland is a big fan of it, I guess it must be any good. At the moment I am looking at the HoverflyGimbal stand-alone gimbal stabi....anyone used it yet....???

Hi Chris

I just have a simple Jakub GoPro 2 axis gimbal and a couple of firmware upgrades ago the camera stabilisation improved greatly. Before there was "stepping" of the Hitec 5065 digital servos but that went away along with my "jello". I think the stepping of the sevos when the board was commanding movement was causing the "jello". I've been very happy with it since. I have not had any experience with the stand alone HoverFly Gimbal control but from all reports it is well received.

Cheers

MJ

Sounds like it is time for me to upgrade to the latest firmware! I've been rocking 4.0 and have been very happy. Glad to hear that it has gotten even better.

Hello, I'm a recovering RCGroups member... it's been about 8 hours since my last post. The Hoverfly guys suggested we move over here to try it out. Since my original nick was from my helicopter days (Helidaho) I've decided to switch to my new nick here and get a fresh new start annoying people with my noob questions and problems ;)
