Hoverfly Test build with first HFP

Hi all,

Very excited about my first HFP (should be here this weekend) build with the new VM X4 from Droidworx. But before I start that build I wanted to do a test build with some spare parts I have so I can practice flying (coming from DJI Naza).

I guess my main question is this : Will I have issues with HFP + Turnigy Plush 30amp + DJI stock Motors? or should I be purchasing some new motors?

Cheers

Those motors will work but they are garbage compared to what you can get for just a little bit more. If you can fly the Naza well you wont have any issues with teh HFP. It flies like a buttery dream. Unlike DJI stuff, the HFP doesnt go crazy when it encounters winds. That Naza freaks out with so much as a sneeze unless you are flying in manual.

Thank you for the help.

Good to know I don't need to buy new motors for this test build. It's going to be a while yet before I collect all the parts I need for the VM-X4 build, having to skip lunch every other day to fund this project :) ... good weight lost project too? In the meantime, I thought I'd put the HFP in the air with my crap DJI stuff (f450 frame) and practice flying manual.

I plan on putting up an AV200 + Nex5/7, so I'm torn between the AXi 2814 / 22 and the 2814 - 11 T-Motor. I really like the price of the T-Motor compared to the AXi. BUT reliability and redundancy is really important to me so I'm willing to pay the price for it. Thoughts?

Thanks again.

I just built two identical 4 cell quads; one using AXI 2814-22 and the other using Avroto 2814-11s and they are both silky smooth.

I haven't tested flight time limits but after 10 minutes of hovering in the shop the AXI motors were much hotter than the Avrotos. The Avrotos seem well built for a motor that is half the price. I use them on rigs that carry 5D and NEX5.

my advise would be to get a smaller gimbal like the av130 instead. Large gimbals catch more wind in the air and have slightly more flex. As cameras are getting much smaller and better there is less need. Unless you are one of these guys who thinks they will really lift up a full frame dslr, it is just silly. If i had to do it all over again I would take an XY8 or octo with hoverfly electrics and the av130.360 all to fly the gh3 with absolute ease.

I really like the Avroto (same as T-motor) with the HFP. Really good combo. On my y6, can easily hover at less than 50% with my canon t2i.

Also, Photohigher is releasing the direct drive version of the AV200 in a few weeks as well. I would wait to see how this turns out. First test video a few months ago seemed on par with zen muse. Cost wise $1600-2600.

Yes, that demo video looks really sweet! Perhaps I will leave the gimbal purchase to the last possible moment. I like the Avroto's too but is it worth paying an extra $50 for Axi? .. that's the question I'm still trying to answer.
