Stuck for a decision

Got an e-mail today from RcHobbyHelicopter. Before Xmas, I had an inquery about the small spy quad, (500). Seems the price has gone up $85, but the shipping is a killer, $71, (from Russa), bringing up the total cost to $585!

Seems like a nice set up. Comes with landing gear and camera mount.

At this price, though, I'm contemplating moving up to a 650 size, maybe.

The idea of having to get replacement parts shipped from Russa doesn't appeal to me.

I could get an XAircraft 650 frame for $300. Or, their hex frame for $180. Parts availability from the USA is no problem.
If I do go this route I would couple it with a tm6500pro camera mount, ( have a GoPro Hero 2 camera ).

I already have 4ea TM2216-900kv motors and 4ea TM30a esc's, 4ea 4s 5000mah batterys. These, I hope, would work ok with either frames???

I intend to soon go with a WKM for control, but for now will use my FY91Q nav. system, ( God, help me ).
Pretty much figured out how to ensure the best performance out of the 91q, plenty of seperation on the gps, copper shield, cable shield.

My desire here is to fly fpv, take some nice vids of my fly flishing trips. Not to get too carried away with this. No intention of sport flying. Nice smooth, stable flying. No intention of going into a professional level. Expandable, if the need occurs.

Any thoughts on other frames? Will the motors be sufficient for the XAircraft frames? OR, should I just bite the bullet for the RC Carbon sm. quad frame I origionally intended? Anybody flying this frame?

My head hurts, too much thinking,,,,,

Something to note about the x650 frame... it's not actually a 650 sized heli, they just put that number in the name for god knows what reason. The motor to motor size is just over 50cm, so it's about the same size as the other kits you were looking at from Russia.

Also, you should be able to get that frame for less than $300 if you look around.

Good luck!

X650 is a royal pain in the rear to work on ie change ESC's and theres too much play in the booms which can allow the motors to go off plumb while handling or after a prop strike and produce unwanted yaw. On the plus side its quite light and bloody solid, oh and it folds. The hex looks nice..I want one!!
Your motors should be fine for XA frame as the stock XA ones for X650V are 2216 OR 2214 I think, running on 10A ESC's, not talking major power there and my V4 still rockets up.

Kieth, I like the way you think! :highly_amused:

Ok, here's the deal.

Ordered the XAircraft hex frame, 2 more motors, 2 more esc's, 2 more APC 10x4.7 slo-fly props (cw and ccw, 2 more APC 11x4.7
slo-fly props (cw & ccw ), TM6500pro camera mount, and a Naza.

Anybody flying this hex? Wondering if the slo-fly props are ok, or should I add some narrow Graupners?

Thought it over,,, came up with 'in for a penny, in for a pound'. Called Robert at DJIUSA, canceled the Naza and ordered the WKM instead.
