still gettin a lot of white lights - from time to time

I am not sure but I am still getting alot of white lights from time to time, the unit flys fine but I know the white light means the IMU and the GPS is telling the flight controller different things. I know I have some vibration going on, that is another story probably for a new frame, however even with this configuration I have had good times, the days when the white light did not show up much at all.

That was before I upgraded two updates about.

I balanced my prop, and looked over everything I can think of, I just thing having AVROTO motors on an xaircraft frame is to much ummmpphh. It flies great but I can't shake out the vibration in my camera mount and that is where I am seeing the problem.

oh well

Hi Jack
you not alone with this issue…i having a same problem as you mentioned above ( while back someone were asking similar set up for his build) simply i told him these Motors wayyyy too powerful for this frame …mean time i have tried four different props APC 10X4.7 =11X4.7 =11X5 graupner =10X4.5 these issues not visible to your naked eye …replay thru the video noticed a…lot of vibration
I'm about to changed bit small size motor 800kv from Tigermotor see what happens..!

i fly a custom 550 frame with Avroto motors on 3S and use 12X3.8 props. Runs very smooth, no white lights. How do you have the IMU mounted? are you certain your position settings are correct and accurate? You need to balance your props also.

What is your IMU mounted on? Its needs to be secure, ours is on a small double sided foam pad but its quite thin to avoid wobble.
We moved some stuff around and didn't renew the foam pad and it had lost its stick on one side so was flapping up and down with vibration and caused the white light error to show. After sticking it down with a new pad everything was fine.

I get the white lights on all of the large frames I've had the WKM on, nothing to worry about unless it blinks continuously. I notice it most when I'm doing more of a sport flying style, not so much when I'm flying for APV unless it's windy and the frame is getting pushed around pretty good. I always use thin double sided tape to secure the IMU so it's certainly not a matter of it being loose on its mounting.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your kind advice, IMU mounted right on centre thin double sided tape ( 3m) with the velcro strap as well….! IMU LOCK UP with the Frame…. I'm more interest toward the video quality !

I might be onto to something, for a few months I have been chasing down the vibration through the camera mount, pretty much every night I take a look at my video, then the mount, then make changes. I have had pretty good success and some of my video quality has been pretty decent to say.

All along as I stated in the original post I know the motors are causing the vibration and when looking at the mounts they are sitting on I know that's where the issue resides. I have not address cause so much mainly because I could not think of good way to correct it, other then buying a new frame. Which is what I am considering.

Yesterday I started to focus back at the engine mounts try in figure out how to reenforce them. After stopping by the local hardware store I found a piece of flat aluminum bar(for 3$). I measured out the length of the arm cut the piece, the aluminum although strong still has flex to be bent into shape, and give a firm hold.

So basically I aligned the bar along the arm making a bend around where the arm mount extension screw, wrapped the hole thing tightly in electrical tape, for the two back arms. When I tested it this morning I do not hear the back props slapping like they were before (which to me is a good indicator of when the vibration at its strongest).

Looking at the video its getting very smooth. I still am getting some vibration however it only comes when I am going fast or more so to when I am slowing down the copter. It may also be coming from the camera location to the front of the copter and prop wash. I also have the mount very lose to compensate for the vibration I have been chasing.

Tonight i will be doing the front two arms and see where that leaves me. I believe the total additional weight will come in somewhere between 150 - 170g's I am not too concern, with that I am now around 2750g total (55% of the motor thrust) with everything including my 6600mha battery.

If this works then I will work on backing down the weight but for now I am just testing. If I see even better results I will post pictures of my modification.

Below is a link to the raw vid from this morning, you will see some vibration from what I believed I mentioned above. I am not going to change it until I put the other braces on, then I can tell if there is a difference.

The vid is basic

takeoff over a few low trees, climb with a decent that is where I see some mount vibration however I believe that is from a loser mount along with prop-wash hitting the camera area, then you will see me pushing the copter around a little, also feeling out the vibration differences.

cheers all

I think I got it, here is a sample of raw video I took from my set up, by the way I like your hexa set up. I ended up building a mount that fit in the landing gear, I then set it on some gel pad and the like is my result. I am pretty happy. Also moving the camera more to the CG has made the copter be more stable.

Hi Jack,

well done … i totally agree with you in regards to COG for some reason WK prefer to set it all closer as possible for better stability I'm almost done beside a video when i get home too dark outside, it all depends mother nature co-operates next
couple of days you will see the result….! if this is don't work Frame will be out of commission , i will concentrate toward building other Hexa since i have a seven spares motors and Esc's ( here X650 current photo) View attachment 2820

I do not blame you I want to migrate to another frame and plan on doing so down the road, For not though I just find this a challenge and I am ok where it is. I am not sure of my next move. I can tell you that my vibration problem is coming from out where the motors are. I recently saw some aluminum mounts made for the 650 arms, I have not seen to many over them out there, I am not sure if this would eliminate the situation however the way I look at it. For me to chase this down more I rather do it on another frame.

I saw xaircraft's hexa frame but because of what has been going on here I am not sure if that would be a good way to go. Plus I have not seen a cap for the hexa. I would like to put something over the top just to protect the insides some.

Ya let me know how you make out, If possible I would like to see a closer picture of you mount/frame attachment.

best of luck

This is good to hear Ken. I have had no white lights on my Droidworx until just now. I was out flying in wind 10-15mph and while the bird was being pushed around a bit I did see some white lights. I noticed no issues and I think it flew great given the wind.
