While being on a crusade to completely dump as much DJI products as possible for the future and poking around for alternatives, I came across this beauty:

HALO 8

Easy pack-down, payload 6-8 kg and a few other goodies make this frame interesting. Since I am a design junky, I like the evil looks of that rig (but this alone doesn't make it fly well....)

The most interesting part is the reasonable price: NZD 5.200 (exl. GST) = USD 4.037 (exl. GST) = EUR 3.060 (exl. GST) ....and it looks like its ready to order....but I couldn't comment on the performance or companies reputation (quality, service....ect)

While being on the Photohigher web-page, I also checked their brushless gimbals, but there I am not so sure if it will be a success (exept the HALO 2000:

Compared to the DJI H3-2D it got 3-axis instead of the 2-axis from the DJI gimbal, but looking at the price I doubt that it will create killer-sales:

NZD 4.100 (exl. GST) = USD 3.183 (exl. GST) = EUR 2.413 (exl. GST)

Geared for "Medium" cameras, like

  • Canon 5D MK3
  • Panasonic GH2
  • Sony NEX5/7

and priced at NZD 9.800 (exl. GST) = USD 7.608 (exl. GST) = EUR 5.765 (exl. GST), it doesn't look like a bad deal. Given that it performs as promised, it is still a lot more than the Zenmuse, but given the freedom to choose the cam you want to use (other than being restricted like with the Zen) and compared to the price of the Freefly MöVI it does look like a good compromise for a lot of Aerial guys....Obviously the price-tag will have to drop once any one of the hundreds of "home-made" BL Gimbals floating arround in that weight class will hit a more professional stage.

Geared for "Big" cameras, like

  • Epic
  • Scarlet
  • Sony FS100
  • 5D mk3

Looking at the price: NZD 14.550 (exl. GST) = USD 11.296 (exl. GST) = EUR 8.560 (exl. GST) I know it's definitely out of my range.....Even if I could toss out that kind of cash, I would propably go for the Freefly MöVI

EDIT: Just saw that there is already a similar thread to the HALO 8: http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?12040-Photo-higher-Halo-8
