live GPS feed as NMEA string?

Hello,
I'm very new to UAV, and come more from the GPS/mapping/orthophotography side of things. I would like to take my UAV, and feed its current GPS location to my laptop computer as NMEA string through a virtualized COM port on the laptop. If I can accomplish this, then theoretically I should be able to show the live GPS location of the UAV in any mapping software that can consume a NMEA sentence through a COM.

My questions:
* Is this possible?
* If so, what hardware do I need to mount on the UAV?
* What hardware do I need on the ground?
* What software do I need on the Windows laptop?

For reference, I have a Phantom 4, but may be using any number of UAV types in the future.

Thanks for any help!

Most consumer drones log the location and altitude during a flight, but not the complete NEMA string. But the location of the drone is not as important as the location of the ground control points in geomapping. Your recorded drone position error will likely be way outside of the generally accepted error for georeference mapping.
