Stone-D
Mini Adventurer
G'day all!
I'm an Indonesian who was raised in Scotland and lived in Australia for a spell. Yeah.
So. Although I'm only registering today, I've been lurking on and off for about a month or so. I'm fairly active in RCGroups (username LMahesa - I prefer Stone-D but many forums don't allow hyphens... something that wasn't the case when I started using it 20 years ago) and a couple of AR Drone forums, and the only reason I haven't registered here yet is because this forum seems to cater to the higher end multicopters whereas I'm currently more interested in micro and mini quads at the moment.
I've been interested in RC flying for decades, but only from afar - import costs, lack of local support and no idea how to even begin have kept me away from the older gas/nitro flyers. Having given up, I stumbled upon the AR Drone 2.0 in a random link binge and got the bug.
So, I got the AR Drone. Being disappointed with the Wifi controls and overall range, I quickly got an RC mod and a decent tx (DX 7s). Being further disappointed with its carrying capacity, I spent a few weeks educating myself, then proceeded to rebuild it many times.
Initial pics here and more recent ones here.
I needed to go DIY to get more power, but parts are unavailable locally so I'd have to order from overseas and eat the import duties. So, to minimize spending and speed up the process somewhat, I decided to buy an ARF built by someone who seemed to know what they were doing.
I finally settled on an ADS 400-Q, running on a CC3D with 8" props. It took a month to arrive, during which time I also bought a Helimax 1SQ, and a Nano QX. Thank god I did, because the 400-Q is a much, MUCH different beast. Had I waited and jumped straight to the 400-Q I would have totaled it on the first day.
Pics here.
My current fleet, in order of acquisition:
AR Drone 2.0... err, kinda.
ADS 400-Q, Tarot 2D Gimbal, GoPro 3 Black, Frankenquad Black Mamba landing gear.
Helimax 1SQ, Nano QX FC. This is my trainer. It fights wind quite well!
Blade nQX, stock. Indoor flying, introducing RC quads to kids at school.
RC-Logger Eye One S, stock. This thing is useless apart from beginner mode which is perfect for teaching people with.
Blade mQX, Nano QX FC. Taken by Ehecatl, the god of wind, to teach me a lesson. It worked.
Blade mQX, Nano QX FC, SF-Design LED lighting. I intend to use this for FPV training.
ANYWAY! TL;DR: Hi all!
