How to make my S800 EVO portable?

Hi,

Has anyone made their S800 portable? I would like to be able to bring it on holidays!

What sort of case to use? Is there anything ready-made on the market?

How would it work with retractable legs (and Zenmuse)?

Thanks,
Louis

Easy? You call that easy?
Mines portable as I have no car. I use a Peli 1650 case. It wouldn't work with the retracts I don't think as you'd have to separate the two halves to fit. There is another case (a boxy looking one) where you can keep your skids and Zenmuse in one piece.

I have the 1650 and you can store the legs in the retracted position - but thats still not going to work unless you remove the Zenmuse

The 1650 is a damn big case too!

Hi Benjamin, I see that you use a Panasonic GH2 + 14mm lens. Are you happy with it? I'm waiting for Zenmuse to make a gimbal for the GH3, though not sure what lens I should get. Would you recommend the 14mm ?

I got my 1650 for around £420 and it came with a RukPac which turns into a backpack. Bloody uncomfortable though. Although I love the 14mm I've had such limited experience with different lenses so I can't make an informed comment. The Zenmuse can be modded to accommodate the GH3. I think Seacraft do an adaptor. B***h to balance apparently.

I havent got to the stage of trying to make it fit - and Im not sure I can - either way its going to need to be broken down

I went the same route as Louis did. My design puts the S800+Zen+Retracts, etc, in a 1610, but requires the legs to be removed as Louis shows, and requires sliding off the Zenmuse.

Nice solution... Excellent drawings! I can use these as a template...I was looking for something cheaper than a Pelican, but maybe I should pay the money and have the quality... I don't suppose you have any photos? :)

Have you ever considered something like these, I know lots of people use them for the phantoms, and come in all different sizes.

They even come with the pluck foam so you can cut to any shape you want.
Really good value for money, just need to find 1 or 2 that would be suitable.

Louis, I am actually still "building" my case. I drew these up, then I got super busy. But I have to have it ready in a couple weeks because I'm gonna be traveli with it. After I bought my pelican case is when I got my anti-vide kit; now it's gonna be a little tight height-wise. If I can, I might reconsider and go with a 1620 case. Oh, and if you want more than just jpg photo, let me know.

Well Quinton,

Welcome to MRF! Did your S800 Evo not arrive yet...?

Keep in mind that most airlines have a limit of how big a case can be and still be shipped on an airplane as regular baggage. To fit the sum of the length, width, and height must be less than or equal to 62 inches, or 1.57 meters. Keep that in mind if you want to take your S800 on an airplane to a remote location.
