Hi All! New to the forum and just wanted to say hello. Just finished up with building my KKMulticopter using the HobbyKing 2.1 LCD board. So far so good but I am sure that once the snow melts and I can get out in the back field for flying I am going to run into many issues and will be pestering everyone for help. This is my first quadcopter and I have to say, I have learned more about rc building while working on this quad than I ever have building airplanes. I guess quads are the new hobby for me. Biggest issue is keeping the cost down and having the patients to wait for products to arrive off the slow boat from China! :tennis: Glad to be on here and I will be talking to you all often. Mark

Welcome Mark. Post freely and often. There are a couple of us newbee builders from the NE CONUS region here. A few of us have taken up Winter flying to some extent. There also seems like there has been some cases of cra****is as well. Flying over snow is "ok", landing on snow is "ok", crashing into snow is not "ok"; but the KK board seems (at least mine) to tolerate it. Something I do not recommend though. I am currently working on my :02.47-tranquillity: right now as I await some repair parts :black_eyed:

Welcome Mark,
I'm using the same board and am just starting out as well. What frame are you using? We are located in Central NH so we are not too far away (globally speaking).

My 13yo son and I managed to find an empty parking lot this weekend and got our first quality flying time in. Now that the build is done and the PI settings have been tweaked, retweaked, and the tweaked again we have nothing to blame on the crashes but our bad piloting skills. I had mistakenly thought that the hard part would be the build, but other than a few challenges related to either no instructions or badly interpreted chinese -> english instructions, I never felt like the build and calibration was too difficult. If the internet and forums like this weren't around, it would be totally different though.

The flying thing is a whole 'nother story though. Not surprisingly, my son picked up flying with some degree of control much better than I did. He is now somewhat comfortable doing a four corner square, but I am struggling with orientation when the quad is facing in any direction except away from me. Right now we have 2 batteries (4000mAh) and went through both once on Saturday and twice yesterday with only one major crash (flew into some branches and it fell from the sky into a snowbank on the edge of the parking lot). I think mastering this is just going to come down to flight time. I may pick up a simulator to help as well.

Good luck,
-matt
