Foxtech Hexacopter frame - anyone got a hands-on review?

I'm a diyer and I'm building / flying / redesigning my 900mm carbon and aluminium hexacopter. I'm looking at a cheap spare frame. Has anyone got experience with this frame:

I want to run 70g motors on it and carry my LX3 on a tilt mount.
It is 720mm wide and only $150. I know there is "no such thing as a free lunch" but it seems to be a lot of frame for not a lot of $$$ The u/c looks pretty weak but I can fly and land so I'm not concerned...

Cheers

I have the quad version of the same frame. It's ok for a small sport flyer, but I would be careful dealing that that manufacturer. I got my "Version II" of the frame after waiting a couple weeks for a pre-order to come in. When it got here everything except the booms were made out of cheap ABS plastic, some of which was actually white and then spray painted black. I got it just before leaving for my honeymoon, so it was a couple weeks till I could get to the build. Upon starting the build over last weekend I went back to the site to check something and I noticed that the "Version III" was already out and the plastic parts I was concerned about had been replaced with fiber glass. They obviously felt the same way that I did and quickly replaced some of those parts for strength purposes, but now I'm stuck with the old version and no easy way to upgrade. I emailed the owner and asked about some type of offer to let me buy the upgraded parts and he basically told me that I had to pay full price for them... which is oddly enough almost the same amount I paid for the frame in the first place. I have to say that I felt a little ripped off at that point. I would have been better off either waiting to order it or going with another frame altogether. Personally, I wouldn't put anything much bigger than a GoPro on there. It's just not a strong frame for that kinda thing.

Thanks Kilby - exactly the feedback I needed to hear... sort of
The Hex Foxtech are selling is version viii! Less nylon, thicker paint.

I have a request from a local for a hex - but not for camera machine, just something different to fly on his farm. At that price I'll still have it on my list - perhaps as the family trainer or fpv machine only.

I'll keep building my Mk2 Hex in the mean time...

Thanks again.

Don't get me wrong. I've completed the build of my quad and I love it for what it is, but I know better than to try and turn it into something that it's not. It is NOT a serious AP craft capable of hauling a heavy payload. It IS a super fun, very lightweight FPV quad that I can blast around the field at break neck speeds. The frame weight was only 150grams, so it is now half the weight of my tricopter I'm replacing it with, and has 33% more power. That translated into more fun then I knew was possible with a pair of goggles on!

Yup, it folds up great. Two of the arms fold to meet the other two and it becomes very long & skinny. That was the main reason I got it. I'm going to be doing some traveling for work and I wanted something that I could fold up and take with me. I'll be taking it to Denver with me in 2 weeks.

I've made room on the bench for all your toys. I don't do that for everyone... ;)

Grass is trimmed

There may be sports on MY park but they generally run out the way...

Thanks for your help again. The footage with the new servo compared to the burst I shot before you swapped out the old servo and sorted the linkages is a huge improvement. I have some other jitter in the footage which I think may be the wind. Just messing around with the settings now and have it nearly right. Im now just waiting for a few answers on the swinging issue.
BTW, my park has more trees, more statues, more paths and more dogs....
I wont mention you forgetting to bind your rx if you wont mention my upside down prop.

Or you forgetting to connect the other battery... thanks for not mentioning me forgetting the whole rx, then the lack of binding... but I'm glad you eventually found your keys safely in your bag... ;)

I believe that this frame is from the same manufacturer as the Y650 Scorpion (not the fiberglas one HK sells). I really was pleased with that kit but it's made of some plastic that can't take much heat (they call it Nylon but I have my doubts). My only issue with it is that I left it in my car for about 1 hour tops yesterday and the plastic melted and it's now totally useless. I'm taking pics and sending them to the distributor to either warn them to warn customers about the character of the plastic, and hopefully, to receive a new frame since there was no caution regarding temp issues. If you want before and after pics I can post them later.
