esc throttle range setting on tri copter

Do I need to set the throttle range on each individual esc or can I do this after they are electrically connected together? I tried to set the throttle range after they were connected together, but I do not get the "beeps" from the esc like the directions indicate. Right now none of my motors start at the same time but once I get the RPM to hover speed, it seems to fly ok except it drifts back and to the right with tail-in orientation. Should I desolder the three esc from each other and program them individually? I just got it up and flying and am trying to fine tune it; It's not as stable and responsive as I'd like.
