Drone Drones

Bartman

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
You'll see me adding "drone drones" to my posts from now on. I still feel a certain amount of despair that the word "drone" continues to be used by people new to the community of users we've helped to establish over the years. Search engines being what they are though, we really have no choice other than to somehow try to fit in.

Feel free to join me in this effort, you don't have to call them drones but please consider putting the text.... drone drones .... as the last line of your posts and maybe we'll begin to make some headway against the flood of new arrivals in the "drone" world.

I prefer "multi-rotor helicopters" but I don't have any dreams of newscasters trying to get that all out while covering another "drone" story!

Agreed. It's tough to fight against the wave of "drone" stories hitting the airwaves.

Another report of commercial airline pilots spotting drones 8 miles out at Newark Airport. Ugh!!!

Drone drones.

Never a good thing for pilots to spot a rig but it was outside the 5 miles radius. That said, it was likely above 400 ft :(

The report said 2,000-3,000 feet! I can't imagine flying that high, let alone deciding to do it in an airport flight path!!!!

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
if anyone has a better suggestion to let us keep using the words we prefer while also showing up in search engine results, i'm all ears.

seriously, it pisses me off that we're here talking about the real deal, with people that have been doing real things with top shelf equipment, and all the while we're more than happy to welcome the newest of users into the community but because we say multi-rotor helicopter instead of drone there are probably tens of thousands of new users that will never know we're here.

any SEO suggestions would be appreciated!

I just did a quick comparative search using Google AdWords account I have for the moto web site. The keyword multirotor shoots back several thousand monthly searches, the term drone comes back with aprox 1.5 million searches :(

UAV appears to be better than multirotor, but not by a ton. Add "drone" to UAV and it starts to get better.....

wow, that's (not) encouraging

it gets even more complicated, there's also the issue of what/how each country and language refers to them

UAV, UAS, sUAS, drone, multi-rotor helicopter, multirotor helicopter, multicopter, quadcopter, hexacopter, oktocopter, octocopter, octokopter, oktokopter, quadrocopter, tigers, and bears, oh my

Yep, I didn't even get into languages other than English. For English at least, UAV and quadcopter come up as the most frequent alternate keywords if drone is typed into the search. This is obviously Google only, but it should be a decent representation of what's going on out there.

While this is not encouraging, I guess I try to see the upside in that drone did not kick back "warfare," or "raining hellfire from above." :)

I dunno, this is one of the best mr forums around in my opinion. Not over run with trolls etc. Be careful of what we wish for.. Maybe a sleepy corner with mostly Pros ain't so bad ;)

Agreed. It's a sticky wicket. I also feel there is a higher level of content here at MRF, and fewer trolls. Would love to keep it that way.

But with the growing numbers of pros out there who could contribute to health dialog - it would be ashame if they never found the site by MRF being left out of search engine results.

I also feel that the folks that stick around are usually above the level of trolling - so hopefully it would balance itself out.

I have yet to deal with any production that didn't call them drones. I think the fight is over. In my correspondence, advertising, etc. I just call them camera drones (or agricultural drones, or inspection drones, or whatever you do with them drones).

Easy? You call that easy?
Well, I for one love being called a drone pilot. I fly drones and I get to say I'm a pilot!

I think the name drone is fine. Let's just go with it, I'm sure it'll go out of fashion in the future ;)

drone, drones, uav & uavs

That's the spirit! :)

Drone you mother droner! Drones and UAV flying around commercially by professionals with an octocopter.

I guess all the spam deleting we have to do has rubbed off....

Honestly, the media is one thing, but the only context I ever hear the word "drone" in person is either: "I'd like to hire your drone for a shoot" or "You fly drones? That's so cool!" I think the nefarious military context is fading away...

I've noticed this as well. The word drone appears to be more and more related to aerial photography etc. Let's all drone on then! :)

PS: Drone

UAV ...

Nobody's mentioned the jealously thing. I'll bet 8 out of 10 people that might try to shoot/knock your "drone" out of the air, would be flying one, "IF" they had the coins and intelligence to build/buy one.:p
