My friend David just flew his first CC board yesterday and had it hooked up pretty well.

Better once tuned. A raft of developer boards are going out now and the first batch of built boards should arrive mid week. Expect about $100 USD

Yea, that thing needs some serious tuning. It appears to want to fly all 'willy nilly' and do flips. It can't even maintain a steady hover.

Will there be a bare board and parts option? (Yes I know...SMDs)

No I don't think so Kirk it would be really tricky to hand solder and frankly not worth the pain. If you PM Dave he has some developer boards for sale now with JTAG support and USB. They are for the hard core types stout of heart. The first run of final boards has happened. They just have to arrive in Oz now. I think the developer ones will be $100 with JTAG but I could be wrong. Best head over to http://www.openpilot.org and PM Dankers.

I'm not a coder so I think it's best to leave the development boards to the people who have the ability to make the code better. I'll wait for the final boards. These are going to be a game changer!
