"CFG-ERR" with Turnigy 9XR and Naza-M V2 (New Build)

Morning (Korean time).
I’m getting close to finishing my first build, F550 w/Naza-M V2 and I’ve just run into a problem. I’m trying to use the assistant software (and following all the written directions) but I’ve just encountered an “CFG-ERR” when I attach the LED (properly connected to the –M V2). Diagnostic information is below:

Radio: Turnigy 9XR – Mode 2 (Enable PPMSIM – Off) PPM is setup for this model in settings
TX (1
[SUP]st[/SUP]
try) : FrSky DJ2 (Telemetry) with: #1-off & #2-on
RX: FrSky V8FR-II

TX (2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Try): Orange DSM2/DSMX
RX: Orange 6ch DRX (DSM2)

Naza – Version 4.02 (I think it was, new software update req’d out of the box, as expected)

I’ve played around with a few settings but not getting any results. I thought it was possibly a issue with the module/RX so I swapped out to the other (Orange) with no change in results.

When I attempt to run the calibration none of the indicators move, but after the fact, the top two are centered and green, but no movement changes any of the indicators.

I’ll continue to look this evening after work, but I was hoping somebody could point out a silly step or something I’m missing.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Well I'm working through the issues. Everything says to use the radio as PPM (which I am), but on the Naza software I can't select it as "PPM", I have to use "Tradition".

Elevator and Throttle are crossed though.

Hey Corey,

I'm not very qualified to offer advice but fwiw...

Have you got the leads reversed between the naza and the rx? That seems to be a bit of an issue on other forums for that error.

Bind process went ok? Tried rebinding?

Calibrated sticks on the tx itself?

Gentlemen,

I continued to have the same problem, basically NONE of the controls were working. I could get the X1 switch to move, so I knew the TX/RX were working. Even at a basic level.

I Took the Orange stuff back off and put the other set on. I left the assistant software in the current setting (Not PPM like all the literature said to do), did numerous unplug/replug, computer reboot, etc and finally got it to work. Mostly. I believe it was the PPM setting. I was fighting with the settings this evening and couldn't get the GPS/ATTI/Manual to work and remembered I had set the radio up for 6ch when using the FrSky stuff. Once I did that I continued to work through moving wires around until I got the 3 position switch to cycle the modes. I have IOC, Modes, and control movement now. I'm getting happier!

One thing I'm trying to find is where I need to set/develop a setting so when/if the TX power goes off the Naza system goes into FailSafe and RTH. I've clicked a few buttons in the software but haven't found it as of yet.

Thanks for helping and the suggestions!

Corey

Hey Corey,

It sounds like you got your flight control mode (manual/atti/gps) set up on a 3 position switch….right?

I don’t have a Turnigy so not sure exactly where your failsafe setting is within the TX menus (on the Taranis, which I guess is similar, it’s under the model setup page menu).

Anyway, if you got the 3 position switch working for the control modes you just have to readjust those same settings for the same channel (Ch7 for me using an sbus connection) until the switch only switches between the failsafe options in the assistant. (At least that’s what I did with both my Futaba and FrSky radio gear!)
edit: actually in reproducing my setup for the taranis (thread in the naza forum) thia wasn't even necessary...sorry...the best info I can give is probably in that thread!

Once you’ve done that, find the failsafe setting on your TX and 'store' the current configuration. Remember to also set throttle to somewhere just above 50%/hover at the same time. The process of actually storing the settings seems to vary considerably depending on your rx. For my Futaba T8J/R2008rx, it was just done within the failsafe section of the tx but for the Taranis/X8R I had to bind it to the rx by pressing the little f/s button on the rx once it was setup on the tx.

Once done, set your travel/endpoints/servo settings (or whatever they’re called on the turnigy) back to where they were when you had the 3 control modes working on the 3 way switch and turn off the Tx to check it all works. You should see the control mode bar in the assistant flip to failsafe and throttle increase to the level you set in the tx failsafe menu.

Does that make any sense? I don’t think I’m very good at explaining!!!
