Camera Crash Cage

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to plunge myself into the world of aerial video, mainly for broadcast purposes. I've built a heavy lift skyjib with a cinestar gimbal and I plan on putting a Sony F5 with Cooke Lenses on it.

Because the camera and lenses are so expensive and can't be repaired by getting a few spares like the heli, I would love to come up with some sort of protection for it in case of a crash.

has anybody tried this before on a cinestar type gimbal?? What's is the best solution? I was thinking about moulding either a fibreglass or carbon fibre shell on the camera itself and maybe having a half inch gap that I could line with foam but don't have much experience in that field.

this is the type of thing I had in mind.

any input would be appreciated!

What probably will be more of an issue even if you build a cage is that it can't be rigid becouse that will only transfer the chock to the insides where you get a shift alignment of sensor etc. the camera also get hot especially when recording so can't be a snug foam bit ether. Build a flexible cage around it in that case and the make parts of the copter to break like the landing gear, then the gimbal connection to copter.

But seams like tons of work that might fail and probably better to get good insurance. And be a experienced before flying with a rig underneath.
