Balancing the craft

Been a Steadicam operator the balance of the rig is crucial for smooth filming, so I started to pay more attention on balancing my FPV Gopro f550 hectacopter before each flight by lifting opposing arms with my fingers and and catching unbalance tendencies, shifting my 1 top battery slightly got better balance, I notice the motors get warm evenly and the copter seems more stable, makes sense, but some other balance got me thinking, what about top heave vs bottom heavy, what is better for Attitude control and general flight, what balance is better for constant wind or wind gusts, top or bottom, we know the motors compensate for imbalances in flight, applying more deliberate balance to other axis of the craft may help to improve flight performance..!!!! or not necessary.
what's you guys thoughts and experiences on this
thanks
