I think I am going to try APC 8X6s on a stock Naza/GPS F450 with a 3s 20C 22mha. I am still very new to this so is this a bad idea. I dont want to use the stock props anymore as I have about 10 flights on each. Will thies props work better with 4S? any info as I am learnig.
Thanks

Great decision by changing your props. DJI props are less forgiving and I've read numerous posts about them self destructing in flight. I used APC 10x4.7 props on my F450 with a 3s 6000 mah lipo battery, 30 amp esc, AVROTO motors and a GoPro hard mounted to my craft. My flight times we're 8 minutes with the heavy setup.

The APC props are cheap enough that it will allow you to experiment with different sizes and won't self destruct in flaight. Ive seen post of people using Graupner 8 inch props on their F450. If you search the posts on the forum you'll be able to see the flight times that people are getting with their setups. You'll have to consider the weight that you want to lift when choosing props.

A good reference is Multirotor ecalc: http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc_e.htm

I used a heavy battery, motors and larger props because those were the salvageable parts from my Hexacopter after its crash. It flew fine with the 10 inch props.

Good props are APC, Graupner, and Xoar. APC are extremely forgiving especially if you are just learning to fly. They may be the cheapest thing you put on your craft, but can cost you a lot of money if they break in flight. Don't buy into the full carbon fiber props. I had a Gemfan 10x4.7 carbon fiber break with less than five minutes of flight.

Securing your props are equally important. The washer goes on top of the prop. Do not over tighten the nut because on some props it'll cause hairline fractures which will cause your blades to seperate from the hub.

There are lock nuts available at hardware stores that will prevent the vibration from shaking the nut loose. There are many YouTube videos of unsecured props flying off as well as prop breaks.

I just ordered some 9x5 Graupners but wont have then for awhile. The Ecalc looks great but what do you use for the DJI stock motors?

I choose a similar motor rating by KV value. You'll like the Graupners. They are quieter than the APC props and gave me more flight time. I also like that they are thicker at the hub. So far my test flights have been good with the props.

I just had 2 tests flight with the APC 8X6s and its not bad but also not great. The flight time was much shorter then both stock sizes, the climb rate was also slower but the craft may have been slightly more stable. Cant wait till the Graupners get here or my new 4s pack as it may do better with the 8x6s. After all the reports of stock prop breakage I must have been lucky to get about 20 flights and 2 small crashes off them.

General rule of thumb, more cells in the battery = smaller prop needed, less cells in the battery = larger prop needed for the same size motor. I'm flying my all stock DJI electronics F450 on 3S 5000 packs and Graupner 10 x 5 props. I've tried it on 11 x 5 and the Naza doesn't like those, too much wobble regardless of the gain settings, tried the 9 x 5 and lost too much performance on 3S, it really works best on 10 x 5 with the stock equipment and 3S batteries. Using a 4S 5000 on my TBS Discovery, also using all stock DJI electronics for now, the 9 x 5 work the best, tried the 8 x 5 which also worked but seemed to be working the DJI motors too hard. It also flys OK on 10 x 5 since it's really just an F450 with different centerplates.

Can someone supply a link/s for where to buy the APC 10x4.5 & 10x4.7 CW & CCW.

BTW - If you are using the eCalc program (http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc_e.htm), Marcus who is the developer said to use the Pulso 2212/26 motor in the calculator as it will provide close results to the stock DJI motors. He doesn't have enough info to include the DJI motors in the program.
