Alternative and/or cheap motor options

Hello everyone,

When we talk about quality motors, several brands come to mind like:
* AXi
* Pulso
* Avroto
etc.

Avroto and Pulso motors are cheaper when compared to AXi. I've never tried Avroto, but as far as I've read, users are quite happy with the quality.

What about the cheaper alternatives? For instance, RC Timer BC3536-11, or KDA motors from HobbyKing.

I've used RC Timer BC2836-9 on QuadroXL instead of MK3638. The reason was incase I had a crash, I didn't want the expensive MK3638 motors to be broken.

I use Graupner 11x5 props on BC2839-9, they get pretty hot after a 8 minutes flight. You can touch it but it's too hot.. When compared to the AXi 2814/22 after 20 minutes flight, I can say AXi is like an ice. I tried other props like APC 12x3.8 SF, APC 13x6.5, RC Timer BC2836-9 gets even hotter with 13x6.5.

I don't know if I should trust these BC2839-9 because of the heat issue. When I plugin MK3638 ones, it's quite cool with the same setup.

So, has anyone have any good/bad experience with motors relatively cheaper than the competition, like RC Timer, on serious AP platforms?

Other motors that I noticed recently are:

* Tiger Motors: They have some special MultiRotor motors: http://www.rctigermotor.com/list.php?catid=55 Don't know the price range though.

if the temperature gets over 80 deg C you can start getting into an area where the magnets start weakening, which will cause more heating

What current are you putting into the motors ?

For Cheap motors I use the RCT 2839-14 750 kv (smaller motor) on 4S with 10 by 4.5 props, they get mildly warm when run at 76 watts continuous, and as warm as i am comfortable with at 100 watts continuous

The temp is around 60 C degrees. And the power is around 100W max per motor. There's no payload on the Quadro. It just weights around 1.1 kg.

I'll be testing the new RC Timer BC3536-11 motors once they arrive. I'm also ordering 6 pieces of Avroto 2814 short shaft, and 4 pieces of Pulso X2826/12 .

I'll be building a bench setup to test the efficiencies and test my props on each motors to find the best combination.

RC Timer 3536-11 motors has arrived. I didn't put them on bench but my first impression is, the cable quality is very very bad. Other than this, the build quality seems OK. I'm quite pissed of, because I ordered 10 pieces of this motors and all of their cable are like in the pictures.

I don't have any idea what to do to strengthen the connectors or the cable itselft. The last option would be opening the motor case and attach some better silicone cables to the windings.

I've had the same problem on some cheap motors, not that big of a deal to fix. Cut the heatshrink off the bullet connector, wipe the wire and connector with some denatured alcohol to get any slippery stuff off then reheatshrink with good quality tubing, preferrably the kind with the adhesive glue inside it and you're good to go. I can say trying to go inside and replace the wire is a much bigger job and potentially opening up a can of worms if you can't get solder to stick well as is sometimes the case with motor winding wires.
