Africa Calling! Hi All

Well, at last! I'm here among New Friends with the same interest in RC flying that I have longed for, for many years.

Been involved with full-size from Cherokee 140 to Dakotas to Lear Jets to Mirage 111C through my working life. A friend 'gave' me a Raptor 500 V2 to " ... learn to fly, and then teach me ...". Needless to say, this got me going. Managed to prang and fix it to standard (like falling off a horse - you can't ride till you've fallen seven times!) and now is flying ike a dream.

Now I have a private project on to counter crime in South Africa by deploying 4Xrotor craft. They will have to be low-budget to start with - with the aim to go the whole whack.

So, it will be great to exchange information on starting this project up.

Happy New Year

Hi Paul

Great to see someone from beautiful South Africa. Looks like you are hooked now....there is another guy from Knysna here on this forum: http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?4774-Hello-from-SteadiDrone!&highlight=south+africa

There is a few other links in case you don't know:

I wanted to move from Austria to Brazil, but the bureaucracy there is an absolut nightmare....now we are about to change plans and move to Cape Town....We will be there beginning of February for three weeks. South Africa with its beauty and endless possibilities is one of the best countries in the world for Multirotors...and no real restrictions like in the US or UK (at least as far as I know). I guess it's about the right time to start with Multis in SA.

Would be intersesting to hear a bit more of your "crime fighting" project....

PS: In case you need any help, just shout....

Hi Chris

An early Welcome to Cape Town - a jewel in SA's crown.

Still very new at this sort of thing - forums. Tend to write too much, I think.

The Project entails suburban response to incidents reported on our Neighbourhood radio network. To start with we'll only cover about 6 blocks. We have (ground) night vision equipment that I want to fly (?). Then there is a constant threat of smash-and-grabs at various intersections around me. These I want to patrol on a regular basis, and follow perps into the bush or onto taxis - getting their plate number! Then its over to the response teams and cops.

There are a few other (bright?) ideas in the pipeline that are sub-talking about at present. But very interesting.

Will build my own 4X or 6X frame and equip it with the basics. AP will be DJI with GPS, FPV, etc. etc. as the budget allows. Been doing a lot of Googling research for abt 4 months now so seen the sites you mentioned - thanks anyway. That's where it starts and this is going to be a great help in actual development.

Thank for your reply

Hi Paul

Now I get the idea of your project. For night vision on a Multi, I found this from one of my suppliers, althought it's not cheap:

The guys from Digitech also supply the Cops in the Netherlands with this stuff.
I can imagine that a "Disco" would be ideal for your plans. It's basically a DJI F450 with a little "tuning" from Team Black Sheep....not too expensive and ideal for fast flying. Have a look here:

Keep well...
