    Besteady One Combo just purchased

Hi All, Just got the BeSteady One yesterday. All was great once balanced it worked well in follow mode. However, from lots of Radian experience, I was worried what effect updating the firmware and connecting it to my Mac would have - turns out I was right to worry. I've updated the firmware...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib X4. GPS position hold problems when fully laden

The crucial thing John helped me with is to get the servo out down to 0% in idle. We needed to replace the fixed resistors with pots (£4 from Maplin) and tuned the Servo Out and 0%. It all came good at that point. Not sure if that's your issue but it helped me enormously.

Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib X4. GPS position hold problems when fully laden

Hi Jack, We adjust the COG to the payload. That was an issue when we first got it as RTF is one thing, but being that we needed to adjust it would have been a great help! (Yes that's tinged with bitterness and resentment!) But we got there the hard way! So, it's a good shout but I'm pretty...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib X4. GPS position hold problems when fully laden

The GPS RX is on the left hand rear boom as you look at this photo. It's just under the tip of the props but the cables run next to the power feeds for the motors. My first plan is to move it to on top of the crash cage to see what that does. John Cunningham is the chap that invented the...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib X4. GPS position hold problems when fully laden

Hi All, I have an issue with GPS position hold on a Skyjib X4. It has an AV200 gimbal with Radian stabilisation. Wookong M flight control. It seems to fly reasonably with no payload. However, when we add our maximum payload of 2.5kg it exhibits toilet bowling and really quite significant GPS...

Thanks again RedRidingHood. Really interesting and useful R

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib Flat 8 v X4

Dave, The shots on one of your reels of Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" now make sense. I was at Crosby filming on the ground only a couple of weeks ago. Your schedule sounds like mine. I'm particularly jealous of Neasdon though - only marginally surpasses Brentford. St Austel will make up...

Thanks Redridinghood - and you must have much better weather in Cyprus! Please will you expand on why it's superior? Regards Richard

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib Flat 8 v X4

Ha Ha - Brilliant! If it helps, I'm happy to swap any camera/TV advice I can offer in return! That way it's mutual benefit rather than competition - a much more gentlemanly way forward? Really helpful stuff and Geoff and Paul are being equally helpful. Just after as many views as possible...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib Flat 8 v X4

Hi Dave, Thanks for this. Firstly, I'm over the Pennines in North Yorkshire but don't hold that against me! Do you have comparable experience of a flat 8? Geoff (who you clearly know) is similarly convinced about the merits of the coax but as a relative newbie to all this, and being...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Skyjib Flat 8 v X4

I'm about to place an order for a SkyJib for high end aerial filming and stills and simply can't decide between flat 8 and X4. Geoff at Quadcopters is leaning towards the X4 then you look at the Droidworx website that says the flat 8 is the first choice for aerial filming. We'll be...

    First Crash

I used the throttle plan to stop me hitting a wall but given that my machine then flipped, I fear more throttle would have been a very bad plan at that stage. I didn't flip to manual - that would have been next but it all happened so quickly it was unreal and I just didn't have time to react...

    First Crash

When I say two red lights means 5 Satellites - that is irrespective of the mode it's in. You're quite correct about the green/amber and no light then indicating the mode. In my case it took off flashing 2 reds then green. The whole experience does leave me with a whole load of questions. I...

    First Crash

When I got the machine back last night I spun it up on the ground and all appeared to be OK with each motor responding as I'd expect. However, there was some very minor prop damage from the impact so I replaced all the props this morning and have just carried out 4 totally normal flights...

    First Crash

Hi, I've just had my first crash experience and it was utterly terrifying. DJI550 with Naza. I'd just completed 2 flights without a problem. I changed the battery and took off again. The machine seemed to be yawing a little without intent so I brought it back down. Everything looked OK so I...

    Another one bites the dust...

Coming at this from the TV perspective, if you know how to do a lossless uprez, please tell us as it will revolutionise the TV and film industry. Scaling up an image has to add pixel information. If it wasn't captured in the first place, it can only be interpolated (otherwise known digital...

What happens when a rotor fails...

Hi All, Just to report back an evening of manual mode flying without incident. Just like going back to the mini heli I have. Much less relaxing than attitude or GPS clearly but not as big a deal as I'd been lead to believe. (I had images of the thing either turning upside down or heading for...

What happens when a rotor fails...

This is probably one for a separate thread but the new Blackmagic camera is interesting although I think it's smaller size comes with a small sensor. The best analogy I've heard is that it's like super 16mm. I think it may also be a CMOS sensor with the inherent rolling shutter issues which...

What happens when a rotor fails...

Thanks Dewster - I'm not sure whether to be encouraged by the saves or to give up when I see the fails! I take some comfort in the fact that by considering this at this stage I hope I'm taking the issue seriously enough, and treating it with enough respect to stand the best chance of coping...

What happens when a rotor fails...

Hi All, This is such useful stuff thank you so much. Modles, I hadn't fully considered the implications of the gimbal in a fail state, let alone thinking it might cause a flip! That's really not great! But I can see how its attempts to counteract the movement would clearly add to an already...
