    S800 alternative props

Denny, thanks for your reply. I will order a set of them and give them a spin. I'll let you know how they work. Have a great weekend. (oops, I actually thought it was Friday already!) Pete

    S800 alternative props

Denny: I see that there is now an APC 15 X 4 prop in both orientations. Did you happen to get a chance to test these? At the time I bought your prop adapters for the S800 I think there were only the 14 X 4.7 available so I wonder if these would give me any abetter lift at this high elevation...

    S800 alternative props

Hi Denny: While I have had a good experience with your prop adapters and the APC 14 X 4.7 I still deal with issues when flying at this high elevation that I live at of 7K ft MLS and greater. As I have mentioned before I must strip my S800 down to one lipo and very light camera in order to...

Changing props for high altitude flying

SMP: I read this comment at this link: http://aerdro.com/ Yuri directed me to this (Bart's project) and I did see that Bart mentioned DJI as a viable flight controller for this configuration. I hope this helps.

Changing props for high altitude flying

My only issue may be that this might not work with WKM. I have a brand new Wookong sitting right here for the new build and I'm not sure if DJI would allow for this Spyder design. I'm still reading and perhaps someone will address this question as I dig deeper. Oops, it looks like WKM will work...

Changing props for high altitude flying

That was a great explanation, Yuri. Many thanks! I will dig into this.

Changing props for high altitude flying

Yuri: Wow, I forgot about those twin engine jobs (over and under). I am not sure though what XY8 means. I think X8 is basically like a quad but with the four additional motors but I'm not sure where "Y" comes into it. Can you point me somewhere that I can get more info on this setup? For...

Changing props for high altitude flying

Yuri, Here is the link to the Smooth Gimbal controller thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1828803&page=13 . This is very new and while it is for servo driven gimbals the results are great. The configuration software offers tons of customization setting but he is coming up...

Changing props for high altitude flying

Yuri: I came across this thread because I wanted to see what guys were doing to make their MR do better at higher elevations. As you know I have the S800 and I live and I generally work at 7K-8K MSL. I have had to strip my machine down considerably in order to get it to lift my small Sony NEX5N...

    S800 alternative props

John: I am flying my S800 at an elevation of 7,000 ft. MSL. So, I lose quite a bit of lift due to density altitude. It's a little better in the winter with cold air but the summer time is not good and I have to strip down my S800, lose the full-size DSLR, use one lipo and go with a Sony NEX5N...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Bigtaco: Thanks for your kind words and for testing this idea with an open mind. This shielded 'little black box' is the only thing that has saved me where HFG is concerned and I am delighted that you have had the same positive results. My horizon is now ALWAYS level and many of the other...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Hey Mike: I find my self agonizing over these tiny bumps here and there when the fact is that I will most certainly always be using the Warp Stabilize in Premiere Pro because it just helps everything to look so smooooooooth. Its still better to get it as good as I can to begin with and I am...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Stacky (one more time): I have burned 4 lipos already this morning at 15 drgees F. outside and have learned a great deal. It seems that it is my Photohigher AV200 gimbal and the way in which it is mounted that is causing many of the problems I have been experiencing. I clamped off the gimbal...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Stacky: Your comment: "If you can tap your gimbal and it has a little wobble in it then thats going to become unwanted movement when filming. Also I have found that prop wash can cause problems if you dont have a stiff connection of gimbal to the frame..." Is one that I had not considered and...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Stacky: I have heard others say this to: "The stiffer I get my gimbal connections to the frame the better." It seems counter intuitive. Wouldn't you think that a little play between the the frame and the gimbals would be a good thing to minimize the transference of vibration also to help absorb...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Stacky, thanks for your comments. I did do as you are suggesting and locked the gimbal after removing its power source. I found that the video was smoother yet there is still some bumps from the S800 itself, all on its own. It could be that these disturbances are made worse by the HFG while...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

I have a relatively new S800 with AV200 Gimbal, WKM FC and HFG. My motors are balanced to perfection as are my props (and hubs). There is no vibration whatsoever making it to the HFG as it is mounted to the front of my gimbal which is very well isolated from vibes. Despite my best efforts I...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Thanks, Mike. I just went out and flew again just now (with the 1.8 REV 1 update) and my horizon was still a mess within two minutes of being in the air. I even disconnected anything that I thought might be causing interference (even though I have the shielded box which worked great from day...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Hi Mike: I was also able to get it to work. It was a little different setting it up with my Futaba TX but the end result was there: camera straight ahead and also the ability to point straight down with with plenty of movement in either direction for "stabilization". The problem that I am now...
