I got an email from DJI asking me to call into the service center, which I will do, but I was surprised they suggested I need a RMA for return of the device. I'm not so keen on doing that and so will argue the firmware changes as the cause.

Did you hook it up to the assistant software to see what might be going on? The assistant may be able to give you a status. I can't really make out the sequence due to the props blurring the LED.

I went to http://www.dji.com/support and opened a support ticket for this issue. I would suggest you do the same so they know there is a bug which effects more than one person.
