Starting a UAV Aerial Photography / Aerial Video Business

I've been asked several questions from people thinking of starting a business in aerial video and photography using UAV's so I decided to put together a blog with some of my thoughts. http://www.aerialvideotoronto.com/2013/11/starting-uav-aerial-photography-aerial.html

    Aerial Video Service Rate Sheet

It depends on the client and what was in the contract they signed. About 60% of our clients just want the raw footage and the other 40% want us to edit it.

For two people. They provide the safety. The SFOC paperwork was a huge headache and not easy at all but thankfully approved now. It is hard and stressful work, especially flying an Epic in 15+ km/h winds for a commercial with a budget of over $500K.

    Aerial Photography/Video Cost

I have done market research. Where my rates are now I loose the majority of inquiries and get just enough to stay busy. Because of this I feel they are quite balanced for where I am and what I am using.

    Aerial Video Service Rate Sheet

Yes. I have often considered that. That is why our full-day rate starts at $3200 not ends there. Once we have the Movi and Dragon rates will climb significantly for clients wanting those systems.

    Aerial Video Service Rate Sheet

My full-day rate starts at $3200 and goes up from there. I'm currently only booking full days in advance because we are turning away work. We are one of very few companies able to fly legally almost anywhere in Ontario, Canada including controlled and uncontrolled airspace on a 24 hour notice.

    S800 Limitations

I have no doubt it can carry a 5D. If a motor fails it would probably be wise to land it immediately anyway but it won't just fall to the ground.

    Aerial Photography/Video Cost

I'm in Canada and flying legally with Transport Canada approval and all the proper permits. My day rate starts and $3200 and we are very busy. I make the client rent and insure the Epic and give it to us a day before to mount it.

Aeronavics / Droidworx New Build Planned - SkyJib-X4 Heavy Retractable

I think the KW10 is a great motor. I just currently prefer the MN4014-9.

Aeronavics / Droidworx New Build Planned - SkyJib-X4 Heavy Retractable

The only pro of a T-motor over KW10 that I know if is price. Other than that they are pretty much the same. Right now I am trying out some 16x5.5 carbon fibre props. I like them so far. I've also used Xoar 15.5 but they are not my favourite so far.

Aeronavics / Droidworx New Build Planned - SkyJib-X4 Heavy Retractable

I have the KW10 motors and as far as I know they are T-Motor 3515 but I can't confirm that. I also think their ESCs are rebranded Turnigy ESCs but can't confirm that either. I also have and prefer the T-Motor MN4014-11 over the KW10's. I did a quick writeup about the changes I made to my...
