How do I calibrate throttle on ESCs?

Sorry but reading around and not totally clear how this works.... Moving on from a DJI 550 I'm trying a bigger build using multistar ESCs. I have it all configured but on starting up motors it seems the RPMs are WAY to high. I'm assuming this is where throttle calibration fixes things? I've...

APM 2.0 software on OSX - getting started

I have connected my pixhawk for the first time to a Mac and ran APM 2.0 to set it up. After loading firmware successfully, I think, there are no further options to move further. The Ardupilot page describes how you can then select 'Mandatory hardware > frame type and so on. I see nothing. Just 2...

    Large frame ESC placement

I'm using Turnigy multistar ESCs. I can't see anything saying you can't extend in the PDF but will go with what you advise! Thanks for the help.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/c04dba10/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

Smooth out the movement with the tilt on the H3 2D?

Another option is to use FPV goggles connected to a trainer port. (not possible on standard Phantom controller) The Fatshark googles have tilt sensors in the goggles. You can assign this to the up and down of the gimbal. I have set this up on a F550 and it works really well.<script...

    Large frame ESC placement

I have a 110cm octo frame which I am about to rig with motors and ESCs. I was planning to put the escs right on the very end of the frame as per the picture here. I read elsewhere that having long wires to the ESCs is not good. Distance from ESC to power and controller etc. would be 50cm. It...

    Pixhawk PWM Rx - advantages

Just the answer I was hoping for. It just seemed a bit too god to be true how one cable can magically replace 8 or more. I think I'll need to look into it a bit more as I can;t see how my Turnigy 9x and the rest of the chain (Tx and Rx modules) understand what channel is what. With the `D8R-II...

    Phantom 2 - DJI Have a Winner!

Amazingly my 4 batteries have arrived out of the blue, 3 months after ordering them.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/70a97a82/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

    Pixhawk PWM Rx - advantages

I am planning to buy a pixhawk controller which has PPM output. As far as I can understand PPM means a single cable from a flight controller to the Rx unit rather than 8 or more with the kind I have know before - PWM type. My question is - are the any advantages / disadvantages to the single...

    Phantom 2 - DJI Have a Winner!

Interesting that you got yours recently. I will resurrect my attempt to get these! They haven't answered any emails I sent which made me think they were dodgy. I'll keep knocking!<script type="text/javascript"...

    Phantom 2 - DJI Have a Winner!

I have also lost out here. $337 for 4 batteries, ordered about 3 months ago. No response. Nothing! Also Paypal says their claims service expires after 45 days. I'm not sure if NukeRC is a deliberately fraudulent website or maybe it simply went bust and took my money in the process.<script...

Getting started with eCalc but no DJI presets.

For the 550 I am using all the standard DJI Parts and don't plan on changing them. I only refer to those as a way of seeing how eCalc works. My plan is to do a more DIY Octo build from scratch.

    New build...kit check

I was looking it getting Turnigy Multistar Motors and ESCs but actually I don't really know what to get. I'll have a look at those too out of interest. Also I just learnt about eCalc - an online calculation app that allows you to play around with different options to understand how they affect...

Getting started with eCalc but no DJI presets.

I'm looking to do a build and came across eCalc to help select my parts. To get the hang of it I tried entering the details for what I know flies successfully - my DJI 550. The trouble was, none of the settings came up and I can't find the specific details anywhere. As a newbie I have no clue...

    New build...kit check

Like others I'm also a DJI Naza-2 user looking to try out a pixhawk setup. As I want to go bigger I think pixhawk is more cost effective for Octos and maybe more interesting to learn too. I'm planning to buy in stages but wanted to check all this works.. 1000mm Octo frame 8 x 380Kv motors 8 x...

F550 NAZA V2 rolls right on take off

Not sure if it's weight balance. I had my 550 weighted badly so it would want to tip over. I would compensate heavily as it took off and take off quick up to 2 metres and let the Naza do its stuff to correct.

Changed props - very scary flight behaviour

Yes they were probably way out of balance - the holes had to be made bigger and very likely not aligned. I've never balanced the stock 550 props before but have seen slight jello now and again on footage. From what I've read that would disappear with proper balancing. So from your experience...

Changed props - very scary flight behaviour

Makes sense in principle!. Using 3S with the 10" blades.

Changed props - very scary flight behaviour

I have 6 stock DJI props 10" x 3.8 on a F550. I decided I needed some spares and without properly looking into it bought some more 10" blades off eBay. They were in fact 10" x 4.5 type but that didn't mean much to me. I swapped them over and took it for a test flight. The behaviour was very odd...

    Should I Build Another

I agree tstrike, you should start flying number 1 and see how many spares you have soon. For me it's been lots of legs and a damaged gimbal. No props or arms on the 550 gone yet. I have spares for most of it but not the arms. The arms look pretty solid but I'm thinking I may need to get a pair...
