    Replacing bearings in brushless motors

Neat idea! Small point - I would recommend using a shim washer even on "the top of the bottom motor". It is a shim washer, i.e it's designed to create the correct amount of end-play between the bell and the stator. Leaving it out will allow the bell to climb up and down the shaft - not desirable.

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

Autotune early write-up here: http://wiki.openpilot.org/display/Doc/Autotune+Setup It's been tested extensively and judged to be solid enough to make it into the release but it's still flagged as "experimental" so heed the warnings: only do it in a big open space!

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

Hoping that Dankers has gone away to get the CC3D shipping going (his g/f probably wants the kitchen table back again ;))... Bart - what "digs"? I just re-read the post you quoted and I don't see any digs. I still only see you smarting over... something... nothing! "Wanted complete control"...

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

I'm not pimping anything. I relayed the announcement that CC3D was going on sale as a simple courtesy to this community. And at least I support something instead of taking unhelpful cheap shots at everything and everyone like you do :)

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

You really should knock it off with the back-handed comments, Bart! This site (whether intentionally or not) is heavily centred on AP, which is not (yet) a major focus for OpenPilot. Given the volume (and breadth) of activity at OP's own forum (established long before this one) it should be...

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

Not sure why you're spending time defending your decision not to be interested in OpenPilot ;) - but I will say that your evident understanding of the OP product is incorrect: it's the commercial products that (by the evidence) make you pay to be an unwitting beta tester.

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

... and that's what OpenPilot has always advised. There's never been any suggestion of competing for your business or anyone else's. The devs do what they do for the love of it. The hardware is "available when it's available". One aspect that doesn't get mentioned often is the knock-on effect...

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

It is a pain, Chris - and everybody knows it - but right now there is no viable alternative. It's all financed from one person's pocket (...his credit card, actually)! Manufacturing the 500-odd boards in this batch cost around US$50,000 - so 1000 boards would have been US$100K - but would that...

    Tau Labs CC3D release!

If you use an Rx-type other than PWM (i.e. Spektrum satellite, SBus or PPM) you can reconfigure some of the unused inputs into 4 more outputs, meaning a total of 10 outputs. Thus you can have an Octo and still have two outputs for gimbal servos. :)

    UAV Predictive failure/maintaince possible?

Some of the high-end systems do have some of these kinds of things. Micropilot even has a triple-redundancy system for the flight controller itself. I think it's fairly obvious that it all costs money, adds weight, needs a two-way radio link and, importantly, assumes components about which you...
