SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

In fact, I made the shot finally in After Effects. But My Cinestar 8 is flying and alive :-) Didn't had much time to fly it, though, since I have some "normal" film projects, but I hope to train some more in April. Also my little mQx is a joy to fly!

Hoverfly HoverflyPRO at 6s 22.2V batteries

Does someone, who is using the HoverflyPRO, know how to attach it to 6s (22.2V) batteries? The specs say that it can't handle more than 17v, but if I power it using a 6v UBEC, I'll loose the voltage information. Could I just use diods to lower the battery voltage about 6v and add a + 6v...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

Thank you for your reply. I guess I'll go with ESCs that are tested with the HoverflyPRO. Still, I would be very interested to know how your KW60e work with the Hoverfly, in the unfortunate case that I have to replace the other ESCs. So please keep me informed how the test goes...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

Hi Lanzar, do you work for Kopterworx? Anyway, it doesn't matter how a motor is used (at least it shouldn't matter). That's why there are distinct information about the requirements of a motor. I may not be familiar with octocopters, but I'm familiar enough with other electronics to read those...

What I don't get is why the motor is rated with 20A when you in fact need 60A? Is the KW60E compatible with the HoverflyPRO Blackboard? Cheers David

    Hoverfly Gimbal vs. Freefly Radian

Thank you all for your help. I'll get the Radian. Hopefully, around Christmas, there will be the first videos of the octocopter flying. Wish me luck!

    Hoverfly Gimbal vs. Freefly Radian

I'll definitively get the CS gimbal. Does the CS gimbal make the Radian a necessity? Why shouldn't it work with the Hoverfly Gimbal?

    Hoverfly Gimbal vs. Freefly Radian

Hi, I want to order tomorrow the components for a new octocopter with a Cinestar gimbal and had a discussion about the parts with my colleague who will assemble it. He asked me why I had chosen the Freefly Radian over the Hoverfly Gimbal, even though it's more than double the price. I saw...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

Hi Lanzar, what ESC would you recommend for the KW Pro 10 motors? Plush 40A? Plush 60A? Castle Lite 50? Maytech 40A? Maytech 60A? KW60E? An ESC with a simonK firmware? There are so many options and everyone has a different opinion on them. Of course I would like to get a Herkules III, but...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

You don't have to have experience reading reviews and discussions about RAID controllers and server components to select a rather well working setup. But you should know for sure what you do when building it all together and especially configuring it in an environment where data security is...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

You do know that renting and buying are different? After using the octocopter for these projects, I either have spent 4.5kUSD and have no octocopter or spend 8kUSD and have an octocopter or, of course, have spend 8kUSD and have a lot of small broken pieces.

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

I considered contracting operators with an octocopter when the project was planed, but due to contracting cost of above 4kUSD, I got interested in a purchase. I will never risk the health of people, and I've seen enough irresponsible behavior on sets not to go down this road. I can understand...

SkyJib Octocopter for Filmmaking with RED Epic

Hi, as stated several times, I'll not fly the octocopter (for these projects) nor will I assemble it. Both will be done by experienced people, and the pilot will get some additional training. I'm just here to spend the money:tennis: Cheers David
