Shot with my DJI Phantom. I was flying over unpopulated areas and a very safe distance from the crowds.
I shot this footage during an intense lightning storm from my DJI Phantom. Being the avid storm chaser and photographer that I am, when I saw this coming I grabbed my gear and took off. I was out ahead of it by 5 miles or so when I shot this. Sure, I risked losing a $1200 piece of equipment, but...
Trec-r, I'm all about the sound bite... to keep you vultures at bay.... Just kidding. I think collectively with some help from some of the members we should have no problem putting a good package together for all to use.
I agree with the UAS/UAV term sounding way too official. We can come...
Totally agree. A "media kit" is a perfect idea. Once things here dry out, I will work on getting some talking point together and you can do the same. We compare notes and get some consistent messaging out there for all to use.
This is a very interesting debate started here... I had no idea, but let me address a few points:
RMD, you bring up a good point about being careful with reporters, especially on controversial issues. However the media has a job to do and they are obligated in telling an accurate story...
Dave,
As a result of this footage, I was contacted by another producer who wants to do a positive story on the use of drones by recreational flyers. We talked for 30 minutes and she will be shooting with me next week. It will be nice to get some good media attention.
So we had major flooding in are area early this morning. I took me DJI Phantom out and shoot some footage. Turned out the local news stations wanted it along with an interview. During the interview, to make things simple, I called it a helicopter not a drone because of the negativity...
mnuser,
Learning curve is not steep at all. Great idea to have your students learn with it as well. I did check out your ballon videos and have to say those were very cool. What were you using to track them down once they landed?
mnuser,
You are going to have a blast with the phantom. I bought on a few weeks ago and realy love it. It is a tough unit that will survive any crashes that a beginner will encounter. Mine survived an 800 foot fall and had zero damage.
Good luck and enjoy.
Gluey,
I too am a professional photographer and film maker. I started with the Phantom 2 weeks ago and have really gotten comfortable with it. I know what you mean about "outgrowning it" as I had the same thoughts. The way I looked at it was if it works and I need to upgrade, I can always...
George,
Thanks for the reply. The thing about it is I am in GPS mode, I do let the IMU warm up, the compass is calibrated and I never fly with anything red. Somewhat aggrivating.
Brian
Do any of the other Phantom owners have the same problem I do? As soon as I lift off I get a 15 foot drift to the right. Additionally, I have been having the same problem of drifting to the right everytime I fly.
Any thoughts as to how to fix this?
