Spektrum DX7 Trim Vs Switch Modification

Hello Everyone.. Was curious if anyone know if this is possible.... Using a Spektrum DX7 and currently have my IO (Home Lock / Course Lock) assigned to the hover trim since it is the only switch left available. I suspect using a trim type button to change functions may not be best idea. Would it be possible to replace the momentary slider switch to a three position switch?? I have not opened the transmitter to verify wire assignment to the slider switch. This could solve a few issues - I do not use the hover trim on my heli's and do understand this switch could present some issues when flying a heli. Any advice / suggestions..... Al

I have an original DX7, and had IOC set to the Gear switch. Currently the modes (attt, GPS, manual) are assigned to the three position flap switch (airplane model DX7), IOC is set to the Aux2 switch, the gear switch is used to initiate failsafe, and throttle hold is assigned to rudder. I don't have a hover trim switch on my DX7.

Maybe if you were to let us know what you preferred switch layout we could held with that.

I don't recomend my current setup unless you need a switch to turn on/off failsafe as there are a number of setup changes and 2 program mixes to enable to make it functional.

Good Morning Lee and thank you for your update.. I am satisfied having my three position switch set for GPS, ATT & Fail Safe. My Gear switch is set to RTH and so far everything works fine. The only modification I need to make involves the IOC. Currently I ran out of three position switches and had a friend assign the "Hover Pitch / Trainer slider switch to the IOC. It starts at the top and when pressed downword it will cycle from OFF to Home to Course. I traced my wires just this morning on my Spectrum AR-7000 and this is how it is wired up (and works so far). U goes to Aux 2 (and does nothing when flipped). X1 goes to the PMU. X2 goes to Aux 1. X3 goes to Gear (RTH). I just need help reassigning the "Hover Pitch/Trainer" to Aux 2 for the IOC. Then I would assign it OFF and Course Lock (if this is the correctone - I want to pull back on the stick and it flies back to me). But now where do I connect the X2 jumper? Ughhhhh So confused... Appreciate any advice !!

I decided that I would only need home lock on IOC, and did not pursue trying to have home and course on the same switch. Your friend has done some pretty serious configuration / mixes to get it to work like you say. This is above my skill set.

It really makes a case for an 8 channel radio though. I built an F450 w/ naza for a friend and we used a Futaba 8J. I was really impressed by the Futaba, and at $279 with RX, made it a good deal. If I didn't have as many bnf blade heli's I'd seriously consider getting rid of the DX7 for the Furaba. I don't want to go on the hook for a DX8, though as I start to get more into FPV and need the extra channels I may have to reconsider.

Yep - know how you feel... I have a boat load of planes, heli's and quad's on this DX7. I am looking at the DX8 but one thing worries me.. The need to "re-trim" all aircraft... I just got the whole fleet flying so well.. If I can confiqure just one more switch to accept the two position IOC things would be fine.. I'll keep searching for a way.. Thanks for your support and help..

Oh, and by the way, if you loose orientation and activate the IOC, which one brings the quad straight back when you pull straight back on the right stick? Course or Home? I want the one whcih will fly the quad to me regardless of which direction it's pointing then allow me to switch it off and regain normal control. Any idea's??

Here's another question: The "U" Channel goes from the MC to AUX 2 on the AR 7000. That switch is set to do nothing. I assume this is just providing power to the MC..

Can I put the "U" channel into AUX 1 ---- then put X2 (IOC) to AUX 2 (switchable between OFF and Course)

I think you need to go back to the person who did your set up. Without seeing the complete picture (DX7 config and mixes) it is impossible for me to do anything but guess.
