I'm buying a $50 v929 Beetle to learn on but my equally-a-novice and much-more-adventurous buddy is determined to go whole hog and get either a DJI F450 or F550. What he wants to use it for is his GoPro, in situations that may have a bit of wind. (Since he's got the $, he's also adding Naza and GPS to the build). How much does it matter, 450 vs 550 and what would the differences be?
-- Will one do better in wind that the other?
-- Will one be easier to learn on that the other?
-- One more stable?
-- One easier to get more air time on?
-- One a better platform for the GoPro than the other? (He's thinking of using a mount like this: http://www.irisaerial.com/products.html. Don't know if it'll work on the f550, though).
-- I gather the 450 would be cheaper to own, if only because there are fewer props, fewer motors and fewer esc's etc to mess up in a crash ... but how much less expensive, more or less?
BTW / He's not going to build it himself but get a RTF one from thequadman.com, I think.
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
(Meanwhile, I put a wanted ad up in the classified section, but if anyone's got an aerosim simulator they want to sell, my pal and I are your men!)
