WKM compass calibration if F-mode switch already used for flight mode.

Hi,

Just assembled by first quad on the 4th and was able to program the DX8 switches for f-mode, int flight and failsafe...but when i went outside to do compass calibration i can't get it to arm with the f-mode switch now.

Can i set up another switch to arm the calibration or what do i need to do?

It flies ok and RTH in failsafe to the exact spot...is it ok to leave or do i need it for waypoints later on?

In order to enter calibration mode you must have a switch that is configured with "manual, Atti, Gps" modes. My hexa is setup with "atti, gps, and rth" so I can't enter calibration mode. To circumvent this I created a new model in my radio called Cali with my switch configured the correct way for calibrations only. Hope this makes sense... :)

Ok...i have my f-mode switch setup with MAN, ATTI and GPS.

I go outside and turn on TX then turn on WKM, flick the switch 6-10 times and the LED should go solid white....but it doesn't!!!!

What colour does it show? I have heard that 8 times should be what sets it off and can be a bit finicky. Try it 8 times..wait to see if it enters cali mode....repeat till you get in. After a half dozen attempts it still doesn't work, hopefully someone else may have a suggestion.

The LED ends up flashing what ever flight mode i'm in via the switch.

I'll try waiting and multiple attempts tonight and report back.

Nope...still can't get it to go into calibration mode.

Flicking mode switch 8-10 times, fast, faster, slower, ending in GPS mode....nada.

LED just ends up flash purple (GPS).

Any other ideas?

You can assign to any of your switches i the DX8 setup. I always lay it on the floor, flick the switch back and forth and leave it in gps mode, blue light should come on, lift it up and turn in full circle until green, tilt sideways and do another full circle, turns white then all done.

How long does it take for it to enter the calibration mode after youve stopped flicking the switch?...3, 10 ,30 seconds?

Just another thought make sure your not in course or home lock, always flashes green when this is on.. Only a thought☺

Ok got it now *sigh*...not sure what i did apart from starting to flick the switch earlier in the power up sequence.

All calibrated...thx all.

Off to mix the gear switch to failsafe...best link?

Failsafe set up is totally different to using a Config file , Basically it is relatively simple process on the DX8 , What you need to do first is connect to assistant software and goto TX screen .. Then goto travel adjust in the menu and adjust throttle down to about 40% this is not precise but it will ensure throttle is above 10% when failsafe is activated . Then in same menu goto Travel for your flight mode switch .. Usually on the DX8 it will be AUX 1 or Aux2 and adjust the travel until the mode slider moves into FAILSAFE and lights up blue.
So in summary you will now see throttle channel above 10% and Failsafe Tab is lit up blue.
Now what you need to do is switch off radio , Unplug battery from the copter and insert the bind plug into the AR8000 and then reconnect the lipo to the copter and you will see the bind plug flashing .. Now remove the bind plug and it will still be flashing .. Next step is to switch on DX8 with bind button pressed at the same time and bind in the normal way .
What this as now done is remember the failsafe settings you have entered.
So all that is needed now is to go back into TX screen on the Wookong assistant and travel adjust in the menu and put the travel back to 100% - 100% for the throttle and adjust the travel on the AUX 1 or 2 so you have the 3 modes of flight highlighted when selected .
Once this is done you can switch off the radio while connected to assistant software and you should see the slider move into failsafe and the throttle moving slightly towards the middle.

On my DX8 i have the:

F-MODE switch already set up for flight mode....WKM 'U' going to RX 'GEAR'

FLAP switch already set up for intelligent flight control....WKM 'X2' going to RX 'AUX1'

I'm trying to mix the GEAR switch to activate failsafe via the mix 1 but i'm confused as the only instruction i've seen use the GER to AUX1 setting...if your flight control mode is on AUX1 but mine's on F-MODE...hmmm....arghhh!!!!

ON your DX8 go to servo setup while connected to wookong. On list move to gear and adjust until you see fail safe go blue.
Once blue make sure you have throttle more than 25% then bind. Once bound go back into DX8 and reverse your settings to how they where. Job done.

Make sure that al. The switches are still working by connecting to the wookong. Ie gps, alt ect. Turn off DX8 while still connected and make sure it's drops into fail safe.. If all good then you should be good.

Ok...found the problem i had the GEAR switch inhibited in the model setup...changed this to use channel aux2 and was able to mix it to trigger failsafe mode.

Last thing...i cant get the failsafe throttle to 50%....sitting at 15% ish right now.

When i try to bind it with 50% and i turn my DX8 on the DX8 freaks outs and gives me a high throttle warning when i low it to 10-15% is stops but this effects my failsafe bind...or appears to.

How to i get around this?

Hold down the rotate button on right DX8 and power up, keeping finger on it you will be in setups. Then scroll down too warnings,
Set throttle over 30 % then hit back button and your in normal mode..

Ah ha...there it is.

Set it to inhibit as i see no reason for it as long as i have the CSC working.

Or is there a real need for this warning?

Any way got it to bind failsafe now with 45% throttle.

All done...time to fly :)

Great news double check all to make sure all good to go.. Own preference I guess. Got mine set to 30 to make sure not on full throttle and it flys off when connecting..
