Gaui Where is the weight limit for 3S?

Hi,
my first post here. And I´m quite new to this hobby so you´ll have to forgive simple or even stupid questions...:shame:

Anyhow - I´ve just started flying my 500X-S and now its getting heavier and heavier as I load it with more and more equipment. Currently I use a Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS still image camera together with a small sony CCD live video camera mounted on a stabilized rig. Gyros/autopilot are Feytechs "Dreamcatcher" together with FY30 for camera system. Lawmate link, EZ-OSD with telemetry link to Iphone and Spektrum DX-8 to control everything.

Everything works fine and I am able to control and take aerial photos like I wanted. But I´m not completely happy with image quality from the Pentax. For that reason I have decided to move up to Sony Nex-5 BUT now the quad is getting quite heavy...

What would you guys say to an AUW of 1890g but still use the 3S/4000mAh I originally put on the system? Right now the quad weighs 1485g (with the Pentax) and I see no problems?

According to Gauis spreadsheet I should move up to 4S when I pass 1800g. What can happen if I´m on the limit? Lots of the electronic equipment run on 3S so that´s why I´m asking.

Best regards from Sweden!

Torgen - welcome to this forum. You will find, like I did, it is a great place to learn multi-rotor stuff. I too am quite new to the hobby but from what I understand, changing your prop size will have more todo with what it would lift. I might be completely wrong and I f I am, someone here will kindly correct.

Again - welcome to the forum. Good luck with the hobby, you might have figured out that it is quite addicting. cheers...

Are you still using the stock prop? I think you should worry about the prop first, it might break in flight. Normally you want to be at half throttle at hovering, so that you have spare power to get out of trouble. So if your quad hover at 70%-80% stick that's not good, should upgrade to 4s with smaller prop.

Hi again!
I flew a few times the other day trying to estimate how much power I use with today´s setup (1485g). I believe that hovering requires about 60% throttle.

The stock props were replaced from start (on recommendation from the vendor) to APC 10x4,7P. Have absolutely no idea what that means in terms of efficiency etc.:) They told med that these are far better than the stock Gauis...

Still wondering whether it just would give me a shorter flight duration or if I might risk anything else by keeping the 3S system when moving up to almost 1900g...??

Greets from a sunny but today unfortunately to windy Sweden!

Batteries and Props.

OK - Honestly... We're all basically new. The technology seems to keep changing almost daily.

Yes, I think you should step up to a 4S battery. What "C" rating are you running? That's also going to matter.
You have to be able to get the power out of the battery.

Props - Everyone seems to think BIGGER is better. This is not always the case.
In testing I've heard smaller lighter props may be working better.
The testing showed that the motor was able to respond to the smaller prop faster.
This resulted in higher lift and better response from the copter.

That's my 2 cents....
