Motor get heat because of wrong ESC ?

Hi Guys,

I have set up my flying gear as below:

Frame: Cinestar 8
Controller: WKM
Gimbal: Cinestar Gimbal
Motor: MK3638
Propeller: 14 APC
ESC: Hobbywing 40A for 2-3s lipo
Battery: Gen Ace 5300 lipo 6s & Turnigy 6000 4s

I recently found that the ESC only support for battery up to 3s therefore it would only work with 4s lipo and after just 1-2 minute hovering at GPS mode; the electric & the motor become quite hot.

I am now wondering whether the motor become hot cuz I am not using the right ESC or it has been overloaded (total weight: 6.5kg) ?

If it has been overloaded, should I change the motor to a higher capacity one ?

Actually, I am having Herkules board II but I am thinking to buy hobbywing ESCs because I read some high recommendation in the forum. With hobbywing ESC I will add 0.5kg to the weight while I really want to increase my fly time(With Herkules I would save 0.5kg therefore with Herkules I would save 1kg)

Have any one also in this situation like me before and what is your suggestion ?

Happy May Day to all of you.

Cheers,

Cuong

The esc input rating is for up to 3 cell lipo's, but the batterys you listed are 4 and 6s, you have put way to much voltage thru the esc's, This is your problem.
If you have a herk board, then by all means use it, Don't hook up the bec from the Herk, just the WKM pmu instead. Nothing else needs to be changed, motors and everything else is ok. No money spent and you will have a top notch system.
